It is the Fourth Era and Skyrim is in chaos; the Empire of Tiber Septim was shattered, first by the Oblivion Crisis and the end of the Septim line, and then later by the Great War between the Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion. With the signing of the White-Gold Concordat, the banning of worship of Talos, the ‘ninth divine’ and the ascended form of Tiber Septim, split the land of Skyrim in two.

There are those who believe that the banning of this religious worship by the Aldmeri Dominion is another form of their growing control over Tamriel, a policy that the Empire is enforcing. Others however, believe that the Empire needs to regain its strength, that this concession is a necessary evil until the Empire can face the Aldmeri Dominion again and defeat them. This culminated in the assassination of Torygg, the Pro-Empire High King of Skyrim, by the Jarl of Windhelm, Ulfric Stormcloak, and the collapse of Skyrim into civil war; between Ulfric’s ‘Stormcloak’ supporters and the Imperial Loyalists.

At the same time, whispers of a greater threat is growing, as from the hidden places of the world, vampires strike out at the innocent population in the night, not content to even isolated communities, they have begun to prey even on those who thought themselves safe behind city walls and guard towers. Worse still, some rumors claim that dragons have appeared in Skyrim, for the first time in millennia, even going so far as to claim that Alduin, the prophesised ‘World Eater’, the bringer of the end times, has retuned to bring the end of the world!

Throughout all of this, bandits raid the roads, monsters strike out at their prey and the Thalmor continue to push their will on the people of Skyrim…
