Okay, after reading up on this more, while it can be painful, it is aimed more at the humiliation aspect, since shoes are one type of social-cultural representations of standing in society. After all, you normally associate barefoot with either the poor, who cannot even afford shoes, or to others that you view as inferior, like the term "barefoot and pregnant", meaning that the woman's only role is to make sure she maintains her man's happiness.

Actually, looking into this, it isn't what I thought. I like the idea of the use of this, especially in public settings, where the breast bondage is done over the clothes, rather than under. This turns a simple shirt into something much more risque, since the ropes or other bondage equipment purposely wraps around the breasts, holding the shirt in tight and putting the breasts on prominent display.
