You eat a blueberry. Your vision blurs and you fall to the ground with a dull klunk. You close your eyes and black out.

In your dream, you see the outline of a man, who is completely black and shadowy. He looks like he's getting sharper and clearer by the minute... or getting stronger. He cackles, a high-pitched laugh that rings in your ears and replays in your mind. "That fool of a man," he tells you, "Will not stop me. That man, you saw him? My... old school friend." You can tell he was chhosing his hords carefully at the last bit, and every word trembled with rage and revulsion. "He will learn to fear me." says the shadowy figure softly. "As will you."

You seem to be rooted to the ground, but he does not stop your emotions. For some strange reason, as soon as you saw this man, you felt hatred beyond any you have ever known. You wanted to hurt him. You wanted to make him feel pain like he's never felt before.

"Who are you?" you ask carefully, watching the man's every move. "My name is Flare. Learn it, and learn it well. Few know it."

Flare looks at you, as if sizing you up, then says, "None have known hatred as I."

Hatred?

It was never supposed to be about hatred.

It was a voice, a deep, rumbing echo that make the ground tremble. It was ancient and powerful.

Flare cringes as light falls on the area, revealing it as a thick forest. A figure of light, as large as you, walks into the clearing.

It was never supposed to be about hatred, the man of light repeats. Flare. Leave, now! says the man, and he sweeps out his arms and you were blinded with light. When your eyes finally adjust, Flare is gone.

I can only protect you from the wrath of Flare for about a week. Then you are on your own, and I trust you will be prepared. Light is Flare's only weakness. Do not take Flare lightly. Now, leave.

You wake up, slicked with sweat, on the ground. The bald man is standing above you, looking anxious. "Oh, thank goodness! You were out for an hour! I was so worried. Are you okay?" he says quickly.

"Yes," you lie. "But I'm also hungry," for indeed you were rather hungry.

He hurries off, probably looking for food.
