"Cuttle? Can you hear me?" you ask, grabbing his hand and holding it. His skin is very cold, but you think it was probably cold to begin with. You can't remember. You hear a noise behind you and glance back to see the mayor and the chief standing in the cell doorway. "How could you do this?" you demand. "He never hurt anyone!"
"He tried to strangle two of my men," the chief says. "That beast is dangerous."
"He's not a beast," you say, turning back. You can see Cuttle's gill slits working, opening and closing in the murky water, struggling to breathe, but he won't wake up.
