P.E.D.O. Camp
From Create Your Own Story
"Welcome to Physical Education and Discipline for Orphans Camp," says a tall, older man standing at the front of the mess hall and speaking to two dozen campers and counselors seated at the tables before him. "We call it PEDO Camp for short. I am Chester, the director of this facility."
He smiles at the twenty boys seated before him. "You are here because your foster parents think it would be good for you. You may feel alone, abandoned, depressed. You may be overweight. You may mask your pain with drugs or alcohol. You may inflict harm upon yourself or lash out at others. Whatever the problem is, whatever happened to you to make you feel like the most angry, miserable kid in the world, we've seen it before, and we can help you."
He gestures to the row of five camp counselors seated behind the boys. "These young men were all campers just like you, but two weeks at PEDO Camp turned their lives around and made them the strong, happy young men you see today. Here, on the shores of Lake Shota, you will make friends, you will have fun, and you will learn to respect yourselves and others."
Director Chester claps his hands together. "And now, we have a short welcome film to show you what you have to look forward to." He turns out most of the lights and starts up an old projector, bright, flickering images appearing on a white screen on the wall. While the campers watch the film, Chester takes the counselors into the rec room off the mess hall for a team meeting.
