Dead Reckoning- Take The Stairs

You whip your head back toward the creature, who is now taking leaps and bounds and gaining on your position. You let out a loud yell and bolt for the door to the stair case. Grasping the handle, you whip the door open and throw yourself inside. Just as quickly as you entered, you thrust the door closed and brace yourself against it as the creature makes a sharp leap and slams itself into the entrance. You can hear its chilling raspy yelps as it beats and tears at the door.
The stair well you are in is dimly lite by red emergency lights and twists upward for a long time. You only have a second to take in your surroundings as the creature continues to assault the door. You can feel yourself shaking with fear and your pants are wet with fresh urine. You hold onto the door with every ounce of strength you have, but the monster is shaking the bolts loose from the wall and in the red glow you can see the deep claw marks shearing through the thick metal door panels.
A small cry escapes your lips as you curse to yourself, glancing desperately around for something to reinforce the door.
