The Pleine Lune Inn is the largest building and centrally located within the colony. It is the only place that travelers and sailors stay when in Marais d'Tarason. It is surrounded by a strong and study fence that surrounds the entirety of the property. The Inn itself appears as the last remnants of the original colony factory (large fortified structures that housed every aspect of a colony under one roof) before the colony expanded to what it is today. It is clearly the oldest building in the colony and consists of two-story building with an attached stable.

Inside is a large common room that serves as the colony's public house and meeting hall. During these dark days the colonists come here to warm themselves with the fire and human companionship. While the wine and ale flow freely, the spirits are low. People speak to each other in hushed tones and a hum of terror feels the air. Food is served from early in the morning until a respectable hour at night. Rooms can be rented both by the day and the week. The Inn is run by Jerald Bascolm and his wife Henrietta along with his daughter, Lillin, and son Jerald, Jr.

Other than the yourself, only one other stranger, Duncan d’Lute, is staying at the inn. Duncan is a treasure hunter who was too badly injured to travel when his ship left a few weeks ago. He broke is leg attempting to climb over the wall into the Cemetery.

Note: Once you head up to your room for the night, you can't investigate the Colony in the same way again.

Constable Gremin maintains an office and home in this cottage. He does not like strangers and distrusts your untimely arrival. His colony is in the vice-like grip of supernatural evil, and he knows no way to combat it.

What is worst, is about two weeks ago his son died from a mysterious ailment. Before Gremin slain in only son who became a zombie, the creature murdered his wife. The deaths of his family and grisly murders and missing people have put the constable on the edge and he has become harsh in his enforcement of the law. He believes the murders and some of the missing people are connected. At many of the crime scenes licorice candy was found.

The church is one of the few building in the colony with an actual stone foundation which the wooden structure rest upon. The building itself is one of the better repaired buildings constructed with sturdy wood of he local trees and French oak double doors. Upon the high steeple (the tallest structure in the colony save the watch tower) is a large brass bell.

Pastor Brucian is the colony priest. He is a Hugonaut, as are many of the colonists. His residence is a small shack built to the side of the church. You manage to persuade him and he reluctantly describes recent events in the colony.

He tells you that colonist have been dying suddenly, even those who were strong and healthy before hand. The first death occurred in the South Fields by a man named Hogarth. Reports stated that he fell to the ground stone dead and minutes later he rose once again and began to attack and bite the other workers trying to eat them. It took half a dozen men with pitchforks and scythes to bring him down. Even during his funeral, his body banged inside nearly bursting out.

The blacksmith is a large, powerful man named Jordi Lefevre. He is quiet and shy, and initially refuses to talk about anything but business. When you bring up the strange murders or missing people, he clutches his hammer and backs away.

The ruckus summons Jordi’s wife, Nadine Lefevre, who runs out to discover what is happening. She is deeply sadden by the disappearance of her only son Colin. You persuade Nadine to reveal that her Christrophe never returned from work five days ago out at the Plantation. Any inquiry of what happened is met with indifference. Constable Grimmin has become too occupied with the death of his own family to be of any help.

Mordo is the colony’s eccentric, lives alone near the swamp. Unlike most colonists, he welcomes the you with open arms and friendly greetings. He does not seem the least bit nervous about the strange events of the last few weeks. On the contrary, he seems excited by it. He offers you some of Louis d’Cann’s excellent licorice candy from an earthen jar.

He has own theories about the mysterious deaths and disappearances. He believes that an ancient African swamp god raised by a cult made of members of the colony and their cannibal allies from in the swamp. He thinks that the god has gotten beyond their control and seeks to destroy the colony for their hubris. He truly believes this and he makes the story sound as creditable as possible and even states he has proof if you will return the next day. He states that he is an amateur scholar and has collected quite a library on the occult.

You decide that the colonist must have had a good reason for their actions and they are none of your business. You follow the constable to his cottage near the colony's jail. The jail is one of the few buildings that you saw that was constructed out of stone. The other being the lighthouse and the church was built on a stone foundation.

You decide that the colonist must have had a good reason for their actions and they are none of your business. You follow the constable to his cottage near the colony's jail. The jail is one of the few buildings that you saw that was constructed out of stone. The other being the lighthouse and the church was built on a stone foundation.

Allow the colonists to finish the funeral

REH fan:

You do not know why the colonists are burying this poor man alive but figure they have their reasons. All is quiet except the for the banging of fists on the inside of the coffin and the rattling of chains that firmly keep it shut. Despite the constant shaking of the coffin, the pallbearers manage to place the vessel into the soaked ground.

As earth placed over poor Tomas, the haunting banging is muffled then silenced in your ears. However, in your mind you can still hear the rattling chains, banging fists, and even the scratching fingernails on the inside of the coffin until the unfortunate man's fingernails are bloody.

After the funeral you are approached the colony's Constable. He is a man in forties with his greasy black hair becoming gray. His face is haggard and their are bags under is bloodshot blue eyes. As he walks nearer you can smell the wine on his breath and mixed with the fifth of his clothes. He introduces himself callously has Jacques Grimmin.

You ask him about the funeral and Grimmin quickly reaches for his pistol and cutlass at his side ready to draw depending on your response to his answer. "That be none of ye business, Savy?"
Walk down the muddy road

REH fan:

You trug along the muddy road heading further inland. The fog quickly envelopes you hindering you sight to little more than a few tens of feet around you. Even the sound seems muffled by the mists as you feel completely cut off from the ship and the only other men you know to be here. You feel as if you're in a dark dreamscape of gray and brown. Even the vegetation is unfamiliar yet that unlike that you know in the Old World.

The road makes a sharp turn to the right before straightening out. The deep ruts where wagons have travel have pooled murky water from a combination of rainfall and a low water table. The road slowly winds to the left and you see a sign materialize out of the mist. It reads Marais d'Tarascon and nothing else. With a few steps further the colonies first buildings reveal themselves from the fog. You find the very much the same as you would expect to find in the French countryside save they appear to be slightly raised from the the moist earth. A strange sight so far from the old world. Both disconcerting and comforting at the same time.

You notice that you have heard no sound of people as you enter the colony proper. It is midday and yet there is no one. You even knock upon one the doors of near by cottage only to have no one answer. You even peer into the one the windows. Inside the cottage, it appears to be a perfectly normal home with nothing out of place.

Before you can consider your next action, the sound of a bell rings out through the muffling fog. It sounds like a church bell yet there is no common religious service that would be practiced on this particular day. You decide to investigate the ringing bell.

You discover both source of the ringing and the whereabouts of the colonists. They have gathered in front of the church at the south end of the colony. It Appears they are all attending a funeral. Leading the service is the colony's Pastor. A giant of a man with a thick black beard whose voice booms out over the crowd. The colony follows him around the small church to the backside of the building where a small but surprisingly full graveyard sits.

You presence has not been made yet as you seem the coffin being brought to the graveyard. It is but a simple wooden vessel yet wrapped completely in heavy metal chains. The coffin has eight strong looking men as pallbearers. The tall Pastor speaks once again in French, "Tomas we return you body back to the earth. May you find piece in there in the afterlife. Tomas, you will be missed by all here, but Tomas you are no longer welcome here. Accept your fate and be a peace and bother Marais d'Tarason and her people no longer!"

You make another glance at the coffin and realize that the eight men are simply needed for the weight of the coffin but to keep it under control! Whoever is inside of the coffin it still alive and trying to get out!

You cautiously approach the lighthouse silently cursing that despite the fog, the land makes it impossible for anyone to approach the towering black monolith without being spotted. You make your way to the stout wooden door of the lighthouse. You let out a small breath as you try the door slowly opening it. The chamber inside is completely black with a spiral stairway made of the same black stone leading up to the tower's pinnacle to the left and small chamber concealed in darkness to the right. You strain your ears to attempt to hear anything, but the only sound it that of water lapping upon the marshy shores that surround the spit of land the lighthouse sits upon.

You poke the dead man with you rapier to ensure the thing is completely dead and will not rise to attack you again. As you do a puff of yellow-green gas escapes from its torso. You pull you cloak to your face trying to avoid breathing it in, but you are not quite fast enough.

The gas smells of brimstone and rotted death as you choke upon it uncontrollably. Your eyes water and you feel your knees begin to buckle as your strength is sapped. Where lesser men would have collapsed you endure. The feeling passes, and you regain your strength.

The Full Moon Inn is the largest building in Marais d'Tarason. It is surrounded by a strong looking fence that surrounds the entirety of the property. The Inn itself appears as the last reminants of the original colony factory (Large fortified structures that housed every aspect of a colony under one roof). It is clearly the oldest building in the colony.

Inside is a large common room that serves as the colony's public house and meeting hall. During these dark days the colonists come here for warm from the fire and human companionship.
"That is not good enough!" you shout. "What possible transgressions could man do to force a community to bury him alive?"

The constable answers you by drawing is his pistol. You take a few steps back slowly placing your hands in the air dropping your weapons trying to clam the situation. You stare at Constable Grimmin's bloodshot eyes and quickly realize he doesn't mean to threaten you. He means to kill you.

You dive to the side attempting to take cover as the constable's pistol fires. The combination of you movement, cover, and the constable's own unsteady hand cause the bullet to catch but only a portion of you dark cloak. You recover your rapier and dash toward the lawman. Even drunk, Grimmin is fast enough to draw his own cutlass as the two of you cross steel.

You are face to face with the constable his face twisted with rage and hate. Your steel the only thing separating you from the death he wishes to dispense to you. You initial charge helps you force the constable back, but he lunges forward with a wild overhead slash. You parry but are forced to concede many paces back into the graveyard. The constable continues his furious attack with powerful cuts and slashes. There are many openings in his attack that you could capitalize on as you are the better swordsman in this dual. However, the constable does not let up on his attacks.

You attempt to reason with the mad constable without success. He has forced your hand and you launch yourself to the offensive. You thin blade dances around the wild lawman's heavier steel. You strike Grimmin in the leg in hopes of slowing him or even allowing him to give up. Unfortunately, the constable is only spurred on by this. His attacks become even more desperate and you find yourself with little choice but to finish the fight with his death.

You come in low as you Spanish rapier is plunged deep into the belly of the constable. The lawman keeps swinging his cutlass with futile desperation. It is over for him as he falls to his knees. He cries, "Louise and little Jacques, Pappa is coming." As he finishes he falls over dead.

As you clean the blood off your weapon. You fail to hear the sound of a musket fire as its bullet crashes through your skull. You are dead before you even fall to the soft, wet ground. You never never even saw your killer or know why you were killed.

The sight of the living dead fills you with such fear that you drop your weapons and turn to flee. You quickly travel back up the muddy road back to the dock. Along the way during you flight you slip and fall covering yourself in mud.

Your steps echo as you dash along on the wooden dock and up the gangplank to the ship. With wild eyes you convince the Captain to shove off and travel back out to sea. As Africa once again disappears back into the thick fog you give a sigh of relief.

While cleaning yourself up some of the braver sailors question you on what you saw. You stare at them with eye that look though them and stare off a thousand more yards. "I'm not sure I believe what I saw. I know you wouldn't. Let of leave the Dark Continent to never return."
For the rest of the voyage you are never asked about what happened. You suffer many sleepless nights at the horrors you witness but you are safe from them. When you return to Europe, you never mention of your adventures and even hang up your sword and gun. You take a job as a magistrate and marry.
You move back few paces to give yourself sometime to reload your pistol. The deadman appears to shambling gait appears to given you enough time to ready at least one of the barrels of your weapon. You hunch over to reload the wheellock briefly taking your eyes off you opponent. Just as you finish you hear the creature pick up its pace to lunge at you.

Before you can raise your weapon, the living dead man crashes its razor sharp claws down on you head. You manage to stumble back but not before the fiend boney fingers slash through your shirt and chest. You can feel the deadman's sharpened finger bones travel along your ribs they leave a trail of hot blood. You manage to push the thing to back a couple paces nearly throwing it off its unsure feet.

As the zombie recovers, it turns in horrid face with a strange emotionless grimace. The creature launches itself fro another attack, but this time you and your pistol is ready. You aim for the space between its milky eyes and squeeze the trigger slowly. Thunder roars from your weapon in a fiery blast. You shot finding its mark trough the corpse's face, brain, and head rending it completely lifeless once more.

You raise your rapier point to meet your opponent of living death. The creature shambles toward you with a slow unsteady gait before quickly lunging at you. You deftly twist and dodge the attack and counter with a clean strike to the fiend's heart piercing straight through with the blow that with fell a normal man instantly. However you foe is no normal man and ignore the attack as if noen had happened.

Once again the walking deadman tries to grasp your flesh within it sickly green claws and once again you shining steel dance about the creature cutting and slashing the monster's lifeless flesh in a dozen wounds each that would have slain a dozen men.

The zombie once again hurls itself toward you. Unfortunately, fatigue and the soft ground conspire against you as the creature's bony claws rend part of your flesh from your shoulder away. You counter by bringing the basket of your rapier's hilt the the creatures face smashing in its nose and teeth. Black blood oozes from the deadman's eyes, nose, and mouth as it stumbles back from the force your attack.

The zombie readies another charge toward you, but not before your lunge at it like a spring. Your thin blade aim straight at the devil's sinister eye. Your rapier strikes true piercing the monster's milky eye, through the rotted brain of the thing and even through the soft skull of the corpse. Whatever foul necromancy that allowed the dead man this semblance of life was broken by your furious attack and the body falls the the soft ground in a slurpy plop.

You clutch your wounded should has you stand over the body of the zombie. You take notice than the Pastor has not left the graveyard during your fight. He still stands on the opposite side of the now empty coffin. Behind you heard the footsteps of another man, a living man, approach. It is the colony's constable.

Drawing your steel and brandishing your pistol you charge toward the casket. There is a gasp from the crowd and they back away and start to flee as you reach the coffin. The Pastor begins to protest and pleads for you to allow them to finish what they have begun. You yell back, "I shall not allow any man to suffer such a fate!"

The Pastor does not interfere further as he backs away as your aim your pistol at the lock before firing with a resounding crack of thunder. The chains fall way as the man inside throws open the lid of his coffin, or what you thought was a man.

The creature inside indeed used to be a man, but is a thing clearing dead. It wears but simple clothes tattered and bloody. Its skin is a gray-grey mottle and reeks of death. The creatures face is that of a dead man, its eyes sunken in their sockets and milky. It lips and finger nails have been worn away reveal nasty green teeth and bone claws that lunge toward you with wicked ferocity.

You have come this far to check on the lighthouse your figure you might as well finish searching it. You enter the dark chamber to right at first. It appears that this chamber is the living quarters for the lighthouse master. It consists of a couple of cots, a small fire hearth, and small wooden table in which a tin bull's eye lantern sits upon. You decide to take the lantern and use it to guide your way up the inky black stairway.

You light the oil lamp as you begin your climb up the narrow stone stairway. As you climb, you time time to glance out the small arrow slit windows. They show mostly the foggy land and sea near the lighthouse and one allows you to view dock and the ship you arrived on even through the dense fog. You see the sailors continue to work on the deck although at a slowed pace. Your certain those men do not wish to set foot upon the area until they know it safe.

At the top of the lighthouse you discover a huge fire pit carved into the stone floor of the monolith. Next to it is several cords of dried wood mostly likely used to stoke the fire when the lighthouse is in use. Looking out into the small inlet where your ship docked is a small cannon with a longer than normal barrel. The cannon appears to be able to fire its shot much further than most ship board cannons and seems well suited to protect the colony's dock from seafaring danger. You investigate the fir pit only discover it doesn't appear to have seen much use in the last few days. Odd with all of the fog.

You decide since the warehouse is the closest structure, it should searched first. You point back to one of the sailors on the ship to cover you with a musket as you walk carefully toward the barn-like structure. You take note that it appears that all of the colony's boats and small ships are still in port and none of them appear capable of travel back to Europe.

The Warehouse doors are large and heavy but you find that no lock has been placed upon them. Using you potent strength you remove the heavy wood beam that bars entry. Even the gigantic doors strain your mighty thews. With a grunt you manage an opening large enough for your entry.

Inside the warehouse you find that it is but a single cavernous area with wide wooden cat walks on the right and left walls about 15 feet up. Ladders lead up to the catwalks with wooden trapdoors covering the way up to the. Running the length of the warehouse is are two stout block and tackle ways that you imagine could lift can carry a small ship before straining. The floor in the ware house is packed earth although you find the occasional patch of straw or weeds. It doesn't appear that anyone has used the warehouse for sometime. Otherwise there is nothing of nothing of note within this building.
The chamber inside is completely black with a spiral stairway made of the same black stone leading up to the tower's pinnacle to the left and small chamber concealed in darkness to the right.
'''Author’s Note:''' This is a Solomon Kane-sque Action Horror story. Solomon Kane was a fictional character created by Robert E. Howard. Howard was better known for his character Conan. Solomon Kane was a 16-17 century Puritan Wanderer whose travels took him across parts of Europe and Africa. For status information about you character, I will be using MP as Madness Points which is a determination of the sanity of the character (100% is fine while 0% completely insane. While Level is to indicate Fear on a scale from 0-4. Zero (0) will indicate you sense no fear while 4 is uncontrollable terror. Prolonged exposure to Fear will deplete MP.

It is late December in the year of our Lord 1620. You stand on the deck of the two mast Portuguese ship ''O radiance''. Your gloved hands grip the handles of both your Spanish rapier and English double-wheellock pistol with anticipation as you stare out across the dark fog covered water. You haven’t set foot upon solid ground since Portugal, many weeks ago. The rest of the crew appears anxious as the sea’s depth’s shallows yet no sign of land can be seen through the veil of gray mist the surrounds the ship.

From the crow’s nest a sailor cries, “Land Ho!” You take a small step forward as the ship lurches a bit to slow even more as the thick mist is parted by the black land of the Dark Continent. You have reached the French Colony of Marais d’Tarascon.

You pull your dark cape closer to your body you step off the dock ship. The air is both damply cool and unnervely still. None of the colonists have been witnessed by you nor any of the crew. The strange silence causes the sailors to cast concerned glances at each other. You stand on the dock straining your eyes to pierce through the fog. You see a mighty black stone lighthouse on a spit of land that jets into the dark sea. Atop it there is no fire burning and the arrow slit windows that spiral up its sides are darkened. At the end of the dock is a large wooden structure, perhaps a warehouse used for storage of shipped good in and out of the colony. Beyond the warehouse runs a muddy road that likely leads into the colony.
