I run away, knowing that Alex can take care of the man. I use the doors in his chamber to the outside to get to the car and start it up. I pull up to the doors, waiting for him to come rushing out. Inside, I can hear muffled screams of rage, and then fists landing. Finally, the sound is stopped by one that's much worse, and much more worrying to me. A gunshot rings out, and Alex screeches in pain from inside.

It's silent for a few minutes, before the man emerges, pushing Alex out in front of him. Alex is alive and I try to climb over the seats to open the door and rescue him. Just as I reach the door, the man places the barrel of the gun to the back of Alex's head and pulls the trigger, splattering blood and brain all over the car. I scream and scramble back into the drivers seat before speeding out of the lot and towards home.

Upon arrival, I break down in the car and smash my fists against the horn, crying. I was unable to protect Alex, and killed my best friend in the process. I walk inside, write a note apologizing for every mistake I've ever made, every little fuck-up, and place it on the table in the kitchen. I walk back outside and start the car back up. I drive back to the main road, my thoughts and heart racing as I pull to the side of the road.

I finally assure myself that this is the only solution at this point, and wait for a car to come by. I see a Hummer coming down the road, and I pause, letting it near. Once it gets close enough, I step out in front of it, turn, and face it, arms wide open and head thrown back. I hear the tires screech, but I know that the driver has reacted far too late.

Just as I wanted.
