You slowly bend down and feel around with your hands. You brush against cold flesh and flinch slightly, forcing yourself to push away all the thoughts now crowding your head. Questions and grieving can wait for later.
After what feels like an eternity, you finally feel the cold surface of the gun. In a daze, you pick it up, stooping at the unexpected heaviness of it.
You lay the gun across your chest with two hands and let out a deep breath. You don't know if you feel safer with or without it. In fact you're not sure how you feel at the moment.
You sigh once again and review your situation:
