As the waves rock the ship almost to the tipping point, thunder rumbled in the distance and a bolt of lightning cracked the midnight blue sky into two. The wind battered sails dragged the ship across the grey-blue waters, while rain lashed the crew trying to keep the merchant ship on course. Avoiding treacherous ice and deadly storms, The Brinehammer made its way through the storm to its destination.

You watch this scene from the window of your cabin on the ship, having booked passage from Sentinel to Dawnstar, as you had hoped to join the College at Winterhold. This, however, was not the only reason for departure from your homeland. Hammerfell had been in a state of perpetual conflict with the Aldmeri Dominion since the end of the Great War, the Thalmor preying on its citizens without mercy. Your latent magical ability gave you the excuse to escape from the conflict that had enveloped your land, yet unbeknownst to you, you were fleeing into a land torn by Civil War, providing none of the safety that you sought.

At last, the storm breaks and the clouds drift away, the waves becoming low and quiet. A starlit sky accompanies you as The Brinehammer eventually slides into the port of Dawnstar, with tiny snowflakes drifting down from the heavens. Leaving your cabin, you quickly realize how cold it is here, having never been this far north. You curse that you were not able to bring warmer clothes, but you had sold almost everything you owned in order to pay for passage, now only owning what you could carry with you.

Stepping onto the deck, you see the clear difference between the port of your home city and here; whereas Sentinel's docks had been a cacophony of noise, with dozens of ships arriving at every hour of the day, Dawnstar was completely silent, the only lights coming from the torches of guardsmen doing their daily rounds, The Brinehammer was the only ship in port.

Wrapping your robes about you, you walk past the various crew members and prepare to rejoin dry land...
