You laugh. Jo is always up to these sorts of ideas. Painting the mansion in the middle of the river, and the only thing she brings is a kid-sized inflatable raft to get across! She has been trying to get you to agree, waving plants she means to use as paddles to you for minutes, now. Still, you wouldn't have it any other way. This is entirely the reason you follow her on these things - it is just fun.

"It's hardly a boat!" You say. "We would fall off in moments, and end up dead ten miles south."

"Not if you paddle hard enough." She said, and threw one of the three planks your way. You let it fall to the ground, and see she hasn't even noticed. She never seems to. That's what makes your existence as a watcher so important.

"And even if it made it there, how would we ever get back? The same way?"

"Don't patronize the plan if you're actually going to be a part of it."

You do want to be part of it, so you let it slide. "Well, look, if we are going to do this, we should start higher up in the river, then, so the current can help out. Please tell me you have a swim suit?" You look her up and down. She is wearing a black hoodie and leggings, and both of you are carrying bags of supplies for the tag. You have your own swim trunks on, being a good swimmer yourself, but would not put it past her to forget.

"Why, will I be swimming?"

"It may be safer than using this thing, really. Wait, Jo, can you swim?"

"I can float if need be - that should be enough."

You really can hardly believe it! She really doesn't know at all what she's doing this time! She asks you, "Well? Shall we go?"

"Yeah, a bit upstream first. The river isn't fast looking now, I tell you, but the power it has will carry you."

"Sure thing, navy scientist." You two move upstream, your bags full of paint cans. They are sealed well, and even getting them wet would not be a problem. You know you can get across pretty well, but the copious amount of things Jo has brought is more of a problem. Is that a crowbar? Those things are heavy! Doubting the stability of the raft, you want to suggest simply both of you swimming. Or, you could humor her and actually join her in paddling across (though still ready to swim). You also could help by pushing the boat across while you swim, keeping her steady.
