You yell out to them "I CHALLENGE YOU TO A POKEMON BATTLE!" as they look towards you.

The taller one steps forward "Very well little girl, but i must worn you i am the best pokemon trainer in all of.... Glendale." He says pulling his pokeball out of his bag.

"Go MAGIKARP!" You say throwing your pokeball into the air releasing your beast, the deadly and furious carp! He just smirks at that and sends out his pikachu. You become slightly scared as an electric type might be hard to beat. "MAGIKARP USE SPLASH!" you yell to it and that floppy lil bastard starts to flail all over the ground.

"Damn it," he curses to himself as he sees that he may already be beat. "PIKACHU USE GROWL," he calls out as if he thinks the pikachu still has a chance of winning.

"grrrr grrrr" The pikachu starts the growl from the back of his throat in such a way that it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

"PIKACHU USE TAIL WHIP!" You fall to your knees as you hear this and retreat your magikarp before anything more can happen to it as you know your beat. You hurry to the pokemon center but your too late. Your magicarp's heart has stopped. You hold it in your arms and cry to yourself, how could you let such a thing happen. But then just as all hope seems lost it beings to glow. You can only imagine what this means. Quickly you run it outside and set it on the ground and you see it turn into a gyarados before your very eyes. You live the rest of your life as a humble fisher and marry a nice eccentric pokemon scientist named Tracey Sketchit

Back in time/walk home, it might be a long walk but you can do it.
