"Magic? Did you take something you were not supposed to? Should I call the doctor?" Again a snort, this time more scornful. Even in the semidark you noticed, how annoyed and pissed off he looked, if his eyes were to be believed.
"Don't even try. As I said: I can sense your aura, how about you hide it better next time? But oh well,if you prefer to lie to me, there will be no next time." His voice became low, almost threatening and you caught yourself taking a step back.
"Sharla." A small cloud of smoke appeared and on the head of the man sat another bat, which had a different appearance than the one before. She was a lot smaller, being white overall, as far as you could see. It was...strange. You could not voice it any other way. How the hell did he get that to appear?
"Bats?" You felt, as if you sounded like the most stupid person on earth, but hey, at the moment you did not even feel really clever. What was it that he wanted? Where did the bats come from? A long pause followed in which the man looked at you, almost starring, concentrating hard.
"You really don't know?" You shook your head resolutely. What did he expect? "So, you are a beginner? I thought they stopped choosing them? Well it seems they didn't..." Not a sound left your lips. Not because you did not want to answer him but because you simply did not know how. What was it with the beginners and choosing?
"Holy fuck. I thought it ended. Wait...let's start from the beginning." He grabbed your arm, pulling your with him out of the alleyway. The light of the sun still shone brightly and thus created a great contrast to your utter confusion.
"At least we can see each other here. My name is Pelm, yours?"
You gave him your name, the useful thing to do. Building up trust and all that. "Okay, listen up. I'm a magician and can summon bats, which you may have noticed. You also posses magical abilities, one can sense that because your aura is not hidden. But because you are a beginner, you could not possibly know about your abilities, or do you?" A slight pause, before you shook your head, almost holding back. "That's what I thought. Something different: Can you see the obelisk?" He pointed at the white building, which seemed so real to you, as if it had always been there.
"Yes, I can. Can you?" He looked at you, deadpan, and you noticed instantly how dumb your question must've sounded. How could he point out the obelisk, if he did not saw it himself?
