The crowd is a dull roar inside your head. They scream for your death, they long to see you suffer and burn. This wasn't always the case, though. You used to be considered a matchmaker, someone who they turned to to find love. You used to make people's dreams come true, you only wanted to see them happy and satisfied. Love was something you wish everyone could experience, everybody could have the chance to feel because... you were in love.

No.

You are in love.

Looking over to your best friend, you realize now that you've felt this way since the beginning. You love everything about her. The way she makes you heart flutter and your mind go blank, her compassionate spirit, her excitement and drive. There's not a single thing you would change about her since every bit of her is perfect. You only wish you could've told her how you felt, but you were always holding back, too afraid of what she would think of you.

Tears stream down her face as the fire is started underneath of you but you hardly notice. Your eyes meet hers and for a second you swear she knew what you were thinking. Smoke billows from the wood, the crowd chanting words that are meaningless to you now. You give her a small smile because you know it's over. She looks like she has something to say to you but she doesn't say anything except wiggle in her bounds. You do the same, loosening them to the point where you're able to breath, even though all your breath in is hot ashen smoke that makes you cough and sputter. Everything is heat and flames as you grunt and yank your arm out of the rope and when you look up, you see your best friend holding out her hand to you.

You know wherever she goes, you'll follow. The memories of her will always be with you no matter where you end up, whether it be a star in a nebulae far away or another creature on Earth. You'll always be thinking of her.

You try to whisper three little words to her, three words you've been wanting to tell her for too long. But as your throat struggles with the words, you watch as her eyes flutter close, her dress catch fire, and her entire face becomes enshrouded with smoke.

It's too late.
