The Guardsman

You follow the guards man though the town until he comes up to a local bath house. You watch him enter and you follow suit. The armored man enters into the men's changing room and you wait a bit before entering hoping to catch the man off guard in the bath. You change out of your cloths and walk into the hot springs area to see the man soaking with his back turned to you. From here you can see he is older then you. Looking to be around 32. He has brown hair and a bushy brown beard and fair skin. You look around the bath house and see that you are alone save the guard. You consider how to cast the spell. Casting the spell up close would work the best but he might relize what's going on sooner. Staying far away is weaker but he probably won't notice until it's too late. So what do you do?
