You take both your hands and chant a spell. You see her doing the same, but it is later than yours. Ha! You will get the drop on her!

Then you recognize her hand movements. They are doing something you can not - a counterspell. She saw through the potential of the fire you were going to cast, and then took control of the magical energies - in many cases, this dissipates the spell, or for some more volatile cases, it simply makes it unstable.

Your hands explode, and you go reeling, your thighs pressed hard against the broom to stay still. You brush flames off your broom immediately, noting flames now on your sleeves. You brush those as well. You were stupid. She would have known your element as well! She guessed your move ahead! Your flight path straightened, you note she is casting another spell! You recognize it easily - a one handed simple fire spell, likely the only one she could control. Just as you straighten your own path, a burst of fire blazes beside you, then another - you are shaking, and losing altitude trying to straighten out. You see your sleeves are gone, though your body, as the academy promised, is protected well. The front of your blouse is burnt singes, though your strong camisole looks only slightly blackened. You are not showing much any more skin, though after showing your panties for a bit, you already feel more helpless. You look like a fool, and that is directed in anger to Maara.

You want to fight back, but you are having a hard enough time just trying to stay up. You could try and stay up and fight her in the air, but that forest line looks safer and safer - you could regain yourself easily in there.
