You give Ashley a quick kiss on the neck and slip away.

As you silently and invisibly roam the halls, you see Myrtle and her mom enter the school. They're late. Myrtle's mom is a teacher. Myrtle is a big girl, as wide as she is tall, with glasses and a permanently downcast look. She's trying to hold back tears.

You follow them to the office. "We got into a minor accident," her mom says. "Waiting at a red light, we got rear-ended." She hands over some paperwork, probably a police report.

"Okay," the secretary grunts after looking it over. "You're both excused for the rest of the period. You have 40 minutes until second period starts."

Myrtle's mom hustles off to her classroom to prepare for her day. You guide the morose Myrtle into an empty room, close and lock the door behind you and draw the blinds. Myrtle is too lost in her own world to notice.
