The group goes into a huddle and we elect to send three people down. Zoe goes, because it's her house. Eli volunteers to go with her. Marin agrees to be the last person. They move down the stairs slowly, with the rest of us watching them go. For a few seconds there's no sound and then a hefty thwack of metal on flesh. The group comes back up. Zoe's bat now has a large stain of blood on it.
"Only one," she announces.
"Really?" says Jon. "I thought I just heard..." He trailed off. There was more groaning. It was coming from the living room.
"Fuck!" yells Nathan, and bolts for the backdoor. Jimmy hurries after him with Lucas in hot pursuit.
Zoe and Elena advance into the living room, with Eli and Jason following.
