You turn your back to Alexis' mangled body and hold the little girl so that she can't see what happened.

"Where do you live... ?" you ask, and the little girl points to a yellow house that is three buildings to the left.

You start to walk toward it and get half-way there when suddenly the little girl in your arms vanishes. Surprised, you look around to see that Alexis' body has also vanished. Time also seems to have suddenly frozen as a nearby bird hovers in the air, mid-flight, without moving or flapping its' wings.

"You did a good thing," you hear a voice say nearby, the same voice you heard an hour ago when you signed that contract.

You turn toward the street and find some kind of spirit just floating there. It is a hooded white cloak with a featureless, black porcelain mask where the face should be. It has no body or form and in the white voids of its' eyes you can feel a deep hatred for you and a strong malevolent force.

"You saved that little girl, and also saved me. Your selfless act gave me enough strength to break free of the mask my twisted, corrupt self had sealed me in-"

"So what happens now?" you interrupt, not really caring what the spirit has to say right now out of grief.

"I'm sorry. To the point, then... As you saved the little girl you have fulfilled your end of the contract. I am now obligated to give you something in return. Since I do not wish to force you into anything you do not want, I will offer you the choice. Would you like me to restore you to life, or allow you to pass on to the afterlife?"

You consider your options, Alexis' condition, and just what it is that you really want to do. You have a very tough decision to make now.

The End: You saved a life, and a spirit but are uncertain as to Alexis' ultimate fate. You must now choose to live, or pass on to the afterlife... but that is another story entirely.
