You have moved ever so carefully along the thin walkway inside of the sewer piping so you won't disturb any gaitors and simply not to get any more saturated than you already are. And here, at least 1,000 feet from where you fell into this mess, is a way out! An amazing way out! You have turned off your flashlight because the piping here is light from above by five of six drains that light and water are flowing through. The cascade is right down the center of the large sewage pipe you are standing in and from this angle you can hear and kind of see the showers at the womans college down the street. However, to inspect these drains you will need something to stand on. This old dilemma again!

You recall stories about miners who would take small exotic birds, "Canaries" you think, down into the shafts with them. Should the bird die, then the miners knew that their was a gas leak. "I have gas heat" you say out loud followed by, "Is their natural gas normaly err, naturaly found in the earth in New England?...Hmm.. West Virginia, yes...No, no thats coal." Yup, you are still a little bit waisted... "Where the hell is that flashlight?" you wonder.

After an hour of rummaging in closets, drawers, and dressers, you return victoriously with a flashlight! Time to check this out!

It's dark (duh) and the light you have is not illuminating much more than the dirt floor at the bottom of the hatchway. You proceed uneasily down into the dust. Although dark you sense openness around you, "this is a wide passageway" you mutter in a low voice. OK, you move forward half steps at a time, your fear of this is fading fast. It's not so bad, a little dusty and damp but your eyes have adjusted and you can see that the distant right wall of the passageway is actually the foundation of your house. Reasuring. Not a foreign place. "The kitchen and pantry are just above me, well two stories above me, above me and the basement in my house, been here 15 years..." you say in an even smaller voice.

You reach the end of the passageway and realize that the ground is no longer dirt. You are standing on a square set of stones about six feet by six feet across. You bend to inspect the hard ground. "Boy, this is a young mans thing" you think as your knees wobble and you steady yourself by placing one arm down. "Hmmmmm..."

The stones are warm.

People have a tendency to create branches where the character dies. To prevent the story from being just a tree with all dead ends:
*for each page where you kill the character, you must create at least 2 pages (with content) where he can go on.
*whenever you fill out the last option's page, add another one so the story can go another way.
*please stick to the theme and setting of the story. Although creativity is encouraged, radical plot changes and inconsistencies will ruin the flow.
*If something is off topic, remove it.

-Your name is Jack Dilligan

-You are an English businessman living in Egypt.

-The year is 1880.

You stand with your business partner at your shoulder and two mutual acquaintances of yours shuffling about. It is a rather dull day what with the cloudy weather. Ah! You hear the roar of the famous Suez Express, your ride, and a train running from Asyut to Cairo.
The locomotive slows to a craw and then squeaks to a full halt. Steam fills the platform with a bellow and a hiss. "Goodness me!" you hear a boy say in passing. Suddenly the conductor cries out ushering you forward. You glance back at your colleagues as they wave and shout goodbye. A mob of people as formed in the mist on the platform and is dragging you, half against your will, onto the train. Dash it all! Your suitcase and hat! You've left them in the possession of your business partner!
"Smith! Smith!" you shout at the top of your lungs. You fear the roiling hiss of the letting off of steam is drowning out your call!
"Smith! Smith!" you shout again. "CATCH!" you hear just before your suitcase bursts through the steam obscuring your view down the platform. You are quick and catch it by the handle. Your hat spins through the cloud and you just as impressively leap up and ring it round one finger!

But now you are out of the line to get onto the Suez and a woman wearing a blue dress and red boa approaches you.
