Wait around the dining room for Mr. Johnson

Pouz:

Ignoring the voices emanating from the kitchen, you politely wait for somebody to greet you and escort you to your preliminary meeting with Mr. Johnson, the big boss. After several minutes, you begin to get impatient; cooks aren't known for their patience, and in fact, many of them have ADD. You suppose you might also.

You begin pacing more and more, anxious to do something.

Do you:

*[[Holler for somebody's help]]
*[[Explore the dining room in greater detail]]
*[[Go check out the kitchen and see what's going on back there]]

Pouz:

Since the kitchen is your domain, and eager to Carpe Deez Nuts, you check out the activity in the kitchen. As you stroll down the narrow alley that passes the bar and leads from the dining room to the kitchen, you stop and see a condom wrapper laying on the floor in the corner. The morning cleaner person must not be finished making the rounds yet. At any rate, this seems like your typical restaurant so far.

You walk confidently through the double doors and into the kitchen. Bright lights momentarily blind you since you're still half asleep, but you're used to it, so you don't complain. You're surrounded by refrigerators with sliding glass doors, toasters, and silverware. To your right is the dish area, and it's big and notably secure enough to house the retarded dishwashers that you hate talking to. It's best if they're kept far away. In front of you is a counter and a giant window, through which you can see the line with all its fryers and broilers and stove ranges, and an alley leading to the rear of the kitchen and possibly the prep area.

You navigate your way back, and notice that nobody has cleaned this shit in years; there's food all over the walls, puddles of grease, and your flat-top grill is char black with soot. One thing's for sure - you're not the one who's going to clean that shit.

As you pass back into the rear of the kitchen and the prep area, you notice an office to your right with two desks. In front of you are two people you've never met before, a skinny, old, weather-beaten man with a slight hunch in his back and an ugly, serious-looking, butch of a woman who looks like she weighs 250 lbs. They both stop talking momentarily and look in your direction.

Do you:

*[[Approach them and introduce yourself]]
*[[Walk into the office and make yourself at home]]

Explore the restaurant briefly before attending your meeting

Pouz:

Your curiosity is brimming, and you want to get the info on your new job and soak some of it in before sitting down with the head honcho himself. You grab your knife bag and slam the car door, and strut toward the front entrance to get a look at the front of the house...

Thankful that the doors are open and you don't look like a dipshit for trying to get in a locked entrance, you waltz on into the foyer of Cardigans. You check out the coat room to your left for a minute and hang your jacket up, taking note of the accommodating environment it could provide for a quick rendezvous with a sexy hostess later on, and then stroll into the dining room. As you pass the hostess station, you see that there's no one around right now, and you speculate there's only a few people in the building right now since it's only 8:15am.

Looking around, you notice the dining room is very big. There's a lot of sporting and recreational crap on the wall -- "flair" as the queerbag waiters like to call it. Your eyes quickly dart to the long, exquisite bar at one end, which is the hallmark of this place. The rails are ornate with a dark mahogany finish, and there's lots of top-shelf liquor along the wall. Nearby are a couple salad bar lines. The dining room is large; booths are in abundance and well padded, and the chairs at each table look comfortable. Toward the opposite wall, there's a mantle and fireplace in one corner with some comfortable recliners and a couch. Your "office" is located through two double doors behind the bar, and you hear some bullshitting going on back there.

Do you:

*[[Look for Mr. Johnson and get the meeting over with]]
*[[Have a seat on the couch by the fireplace and relax for a minute]]

Pouz:

You grab your knife bag and with a quick look toward the front entrance, you shift direction and head toward the back and the voices you faintly heard upon pulling up. As you approach the bushes that surround the dumpsters and the back door, the voices stop, and you see a face peek around the wall for a second, and then recoil back from where it came. You grin as you hear coughing and somebody whisper "shit!", while little smoke wisps emerge from the top of the bushes to your front.

You smell the fragrance of some good weed in the air, and assuming these two guys you're about to scare the shit out of are a couple of your cooks, you are thankful that everything is going as planned so far, because you wouldn't trust a restaurant where no one smoked the reefer.

You stop momentarily to decide what to do. You're going to surprise these dudes, but how will you treat your peons?

*[[Jump out in animated fashion and act crazy in hopes they'll shit their pants]]
*[[Play it cool, introduce yourself and ask to hit that shit]]
*[[Lay down the law, confiscate their joint, and put them back to work in fear]]

Pouz:

The alarm sounds, but you don't fight it. In the corner are several busted old alarm clocks strewn about and broken from being thrown at the wall. They're testament to the older days when you were an undisciplined cook and knew nothing about the industry. Nowadays, you're used to three hours of sleep and a hangover before going in to work at 7:30am. You're a professional.

Today's your first day at Cardigan's Restaurant in Middletown, heading up the kitchen. You're the new kitchen manager! God only knows what would've happened if you'd stuck with your culinary training and got that degree that could've transformed you into a bona fide chef, but in a small way you're glad you didn't; the chefs you know are pussies and aside from some tasty treats, they can't pump the food out. You're a cooking machine, and thanks to your twelve years of cooking experience at several restaurants, Joe Johnson, owner of the Snackies restaurant chain in Middletown, has promoted you to his busiest dining environment in town. This is the big time in Middletown, and you're in charge.

A shit, shower, and shave later, you're on the road in your beat-up Audi to the restaurant. Cardigan's opens at 11am for lunch, and you know with the volume of business they do, there's a lot of prep work to be done. You're scheduled early for a meeting with Mr. Johnson, the owner, to run down some business specs about the kitchen before anything else, but as you pull into the lot and collect your knives for the day that lies ahead, your keen eye spots the back door and some people talking in the shadows.

Do you:

*[[Enter the front door and find Mr. Johnson]]
*[[Take a walk back to the rear entrance to see what's going on]]

You start toward the front door with your knife bag in tow, excited to start laying down the law as the new boss... the boss of the kitchen. You know from many years in the biz that the kitchen controls all, so you're feeling on top of the world. Joe Johnson, who you've known for several years, is a spaced out dude and has his hands full with managing an entire corporation of area restaurants, plus he's very fond of the work you've done. Word is, though, that the restaurant manager here at Cardigans is a real beast of a woman. Not that you're worried.

== Your Job ==

Is that of a restaurant cook, one of the crappiest but most twisted jobs out there. It's a job you love to hate, and no matter how you try, you cannot leave it. Cooking food for imbeciles is in your blood, and feeding the bovine human herd is your duty. Never mind the $8.00/hr. wage you make, or the 100 degree F temperatures you endure. Even the grease is tolerable, especially when you're surrounded by horny little college waitresses who like to party EVERY night...

Your mission is this: Have fun and don't get fired. You must nail every waitress before termination is acceptable. That means a lot of after hours booze and booty, but it also means a lot of crazy bullshit for ten hours a day, six days a week in sweatshop conditions. Still sound easy? Don't forget to try and keep your cool while trying to navigate the restaurant politics. Oh, and the manager is an asshole - watch out for him.

Good luck.

== Your Job ==

Good luck.

6:45am

A familiar sound, a groggy beginning. You raise your arm up to swat at that annoying alarm clock, but instead your arm gets tangled in the lampshade that sits above the couch you've become accustomed to sleeping on. You hear a sizzle as you remember forgetting to turn off the light the night before. "Second degree burns and I haven't even been up for two minutes," you manage to think as you shake your head violently to ward off the sleep. "I've got a long day ahead of me."

If only you knew.

Time to get up. What's the plan?

Pouz:

In your uber-excitement, you wet your pants. Embarrassed, you race to your room, and a wave of relief overcomes you. Your Dad didn't see your accident. You sit down in a wet puddle on your bedroom floor, and stare at the window you threw Dragon out of.

"I'm lucky," you say to yourself. "If Daddy had seen me wet my pants again, he would've tied me up in the shed again for sure!"

...

...

A couple more knocks, and you refuse to make a sound. Finally, one loud "THUD" emanates from the entrance, and the door comes crashing off the hinges. As the smoke clears, you look up to Mommy and Daddy with concerned looks on their faces.

"It smells like Dog and chicken in here!" yells your mom. "I told you dogs were dirty and smelly."

You move your foot to cover the puddle you made beneath yourself, and the sweat begins to collect on your forehead.

"What is that?" asks your Dad. "Oh, no. Do you remember the last time you wet your pants? Ok, get up. I promise it won't be that painful this time, but you and I are going out to the shed again. I'm going to have to teach you a lesson."

You squat down on your hindquarters, and ready yourself for a giant howl. This will be a howl unlike that ever heard from any wolves, bears, dogs, or water beetles. It will be a howl from a human for the love of a dog named Dragon.

You run to your father as he steps out of the car from a long day of work. You stop long enough to show him Dragon, and then turn to race away from him. "He'll have to catch me first!" you think, but the puppy squirms loose from your grasp. With great fury, Dragon runs to your father and grabs his left shoelace, pulling it untied.

You gasp in horror. You recall that your mother once explained to you that your father was once hospitalized at a special hospital because he hated his shoes coming untied. It is his pet peeve.

Daddy's briefcase drops to the floor, and he begins to scratch himself all over. He tears off his shoes and begins to scream, and falls to the floor.

Pouz:

A headache sets in, and you feel numb to all other pain because of the emotional scar that Dragon left upon your heart. Your mouth gets dry. You feel dizzy, and look toward your legs, which are covered in red ants. Laughing, you begin to count them. It's a rather euphoric sensation.

"One... Two... Six... Forty-Eight... Two-Thousand, Five Hundred Ninety-Two..." The dizziness overcomes you, and you say your goodbyes.

Pouz:

You wet your finger, still crusted with dirt, and stick it high into the air. The breeze licks your hand, and you feel positive about the direction of the wind. You methodically take each of your shoes off, and fling one toward the West, and a big Oak Tree, and the other one East, toward a creek bed at the bottom of a bank.

You figure if one shoe is nearby, the other one must be close. The rocks on the ground are hurting your feet now, though.

Sadness overcomes you, and you run faster than crows fly back to the place from whence you came. Dragon is all you can think of, and you see a little fur-slug appear on the horizon. It's Dragon.
The slug grows, and to your pleasant surprise, Dragon runs toward you as well.
Query Dragon

Pouz:

Your eyes narrow, and you push Dragon for more answers. You take a step, moving ever so slowly toward the dog, and he backs away. You take another step, and he retreats even further. Finally, you back Dragon into a corner, between a hobo's shopping cart and a Fried Chicken stand.

Nervously, Dragon sits and asks, "is this an interrogation? Ease off, pal. I lied. The square root of 16 is obviously 4.

"I knew that," you say.

"At any rate, you now know I'm no ordinary dog. I tried to keep it a secret, but I can't resist answering math problems. Look, I'll fill you in on my mission." Dragon paws at the ground nervously. "I'm here to stop a cat from destroying a little girl. My quantum leap went bad - I'm from the future, by the way - and I landed in a dog's body. Releasing my bowels was the most convenient form of communication I've found so far."

Do you...

[[Arrest Dragon]] Perform a citizen's arrest on Dragon for violating the laws of physics

[[Perform Ritual]] Take it upon yourself to dispel this evil spirit that sits in front of you, endangering the little girl

[[Information Request]] Ask the dog about Ziggy: Have any modifications been made to the time travel computer system, and if so, how do they enhance the performance of the unit's onboard probability matrix?

[[Beer Run]] Ask Dragon for $12 so you can go get some beer.
