Choose Your Own Adventure is a wiki that contains stories where the reader assumes the role of the main character. In each page you choose how the story should progress. If you don't see an option that you would like to pursue, click the edit tab on the top of the page and add a new path to the page. Then you get to write in your own adventure for the character.

Please note that this site is specifically for Choose Your Own Adventure stories. If you choose to post stories that have no choices, your story will be deleted as such stories are not appropriate for this site.

This is a great idea, but the problem is that the story lacks focus. Everyone is just adding to it in crazy directions with some adult content thrown in. Although I guess its funny, it will never be a story. I suggest that the authors try their best to constrain it to the world of the story, and not have things like out of place items like possibly cell phones or celebrities, etc. (I am talking here about the non-adult stories.)

On another CYOA story wiki I use, categories are used to track stories, original authors of each thread, and such things as unfinished threads. Seems to work nicely. Since ssr (Smutty Sex Romp) is such a HUGE story, I think it might be cool to have a section on it's main page where you can select certain areas in the "story" to go to. There are certain areas that are near impossible to go to once you have to start over, so this could be an optional thing for people who want to find somewhere quickly or start from a certain place. --[[User:Kazemawari]]

There are several options for finding specific areas. On the status bar, there's a spot for Location. Click on the location and you'll go to a brief description of it. From this description page, click on the category, which is Smutty Sex Romp Locations. This will take you to the index of all locations in the story. Click on any of them to get the description, and from that page, click on the left where it says 'what links here'. That will give you a list of pages in that location.

Don't worry too much. I'm the only active member with the power to ban people, and I only ban people for vandalism. I do appreciate it if you finish an individual page once you've started it. That is, it should include options so other writers can carry the story onward if you don't (unless the page is an ending), and should include the status bar/category from the previous page, as appropriate. You can always edit the page's contents later if you feel it needs more work.

You don't click the creat a wiki link to creat your adventure, you click to edit the section you wish, like kids stories, normal stories and that kind of stuff. Then once you edit it you can copy a story link there, and paste it were it goes. Then you change the name of that to your story. After that you click on hit to edit it.

I've considered doing that, but every now and then someone comes along and takes a story that's been sitting around going nowhere and turns it into something. That [[Harry Potter]] adventurer, for example, had only a few pages for the longest time and then people began adding to it. [[Rampage]] had about five barely readable pages until I re-wrote it in proper English and since then many others have added to it.

Have you ever considered moving the wiki? EditThis.info is riddled with problems. Since I organised to move one of my wikis to Wikia (and later moved my other one) everything has been fine. Here, everytime I try to open a page, it takes <s>double, possibly triple as long as</s> '''much''' longer than it does everywhere else.

I say Wikia, it's the only good wiki host I know of. Far more reliable, and reacts quicker to problems you may have. There's always WikiaStaff to help. More possible things on Wikia's MediaWiki than here too.

RobKohr is the admin for this wiki. I'm only a sysop, and I have that status because RobKohr granted it to me. So I don't think that moving is really an option. EditThis isn't always as reliable as I'd like, but I don't think it's that bad, either.

If it was turned off a link spammer would create an account, and an automatic process would be used to fill the wiki with spam. Link spammers were indeed a problem, but that problem ceased completely once I stopped allowing anonymous users to post. The captcha frequently bombs out, preventing new edits on pages with external links on them. Its existence has become far more annoying than the link spammers. rather than having all the stories listed directly on the main page, wouldn't it be easier to move the stories to separate pages listed by their ratings? For instance having a page that leads to the all ages stories, another page that leads to the adult stuff, etc etc. It would make the main page itself a lot easier and also help keep kids from stumbling across story titles that aren't exactly kid friendly.

I have nominated Harry Potter as featured story, since nearly a month has passed since Evolution was nominated. I also added a past nominations page to track which stories have been nominated. *Irony RARELY needs to be pointed out. If it's really ironic, the reader can figure that out, and they get to feel good about themselves if you don't blatantly tell them to recognize the situation as ironic. IE: Ironically, I'm not following my advice! This mindset of trusting the reader to use his/her brain is often a good idea in a broader sense when writing. After I "settle in", if I hit a "plateau" of activity, then I'd be willing to take the responsibility. Could be interesting. There are a lot of "new stories", though. I'm afraid that half of the stories here might fall into the under 30 pages criterium. Dating the creation of a story might be a good idea, though. Then we'd know when to throw them into the "Pit of abandoned stories".

How would a new member's section be useful? Few of the members really contribute to discussions or seem to want to do more than edit their stories. I think more cross-person interaction would be a good thing, though. I've never felt like a noob here, just like no one wants to talk to me. ;-)

I went through the stories under ten pages and moved ones that haven't been edited since June 09 (for the shorter ones) or February 09 (for the slightly longer ones) to the Pit of Abandoned Stories. I was a bit zealous and moved a couple 14 page stories into the pit. I know that's not standard, but they hadn't been touched for about a year, and the story hadn't really moved in the pages that do exist. == some old ideas ==

i used to be really into making choose your own adventures, and have some ideas others might want to use or w/e. If you have an idea of a map u wanna make, make each room or place you can stand a new page, then link them together, so the player can explore freely without each option simply branching off to two others until the player wins or loses. This system i found leads to more in depth player options.
Also with the system above, you can have a full day and night cycle, where you split the day into a few segments (eg. morning, evening, night) then rewrite the entire world for each segment, then whenever you have the option to wait or sleep or whatever, the time of day changes one over, into the same spot your standing at. This way you can have a village or whatever, but have people sleeping and shopping at different times, giving the world a little more life.

:I think the simpler approach to backtracking and such may be a lot easier from the writing standpoint. The problem, however, is that you throw out all possibilities of RPG elements, like equipment and life and levels, unless it's crucial to the story, and you can't back up after acquiring one of them. Or you can re-write the entire world every time you want to reflect one of those changes. Adding on the re-writes for each time period would make it hit cataclysmic levels of complexion, and would ''only'' make sense to implement if you had a java-based method of delivering CYOA stories, so you could simply store those variables in the RAM to access when needed.

:I could see this method being useful for, just an example, re-creating The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. In that game, there were different events only accessible at certain times of day, and you would go back in time, repeating (I think it was) 3 days over and over, but bringing your key items back with you to the start, allowing progress through the game. But, again, including each possible item at each possible time would either require a ''ton'' of re-writing, or the beforementioned java-based delivery method for CYOA. There is no real problem or rule against editing pages, especially grammar correction. If you want to fix stories then that’s alright. Hell, even adding new stuff to the story is fine in most cases.
The problem with this site is that there are some users who create crappy stories with five pages that have no real plot or proper grammar. People work on their story for a day then leave resulting in many poor stories with no real purpose. So if you want to fix stories then go for it.

I am the only active sysop here, and I don't object to anyone trying fix grammar around the site. We were recently invaded by a Canadian school whose students wanted the thrill of posting on the web despite the fact that many of them had a poor grasp of English. Their teacher's help made many things worse, not better. Scenerios do not need to bear relation to eachother, but please keep the age linear, and also monitor the modesty points for every thread. Each Negative decision is -1 to-2 modesty point, and each positive decision is +1 to +2 Modesty points. Stories of less than ten pages that haven't been worked on by anyone in some time will be dropped into the Pit. Feel free to retrieve stories from the Pit and put them back here on the Main Page if you get inspired and add to one.

==Creating a Story==
If you have an idea for a story, you might like to try [[Idea Pitches|pitching your idea to other users]] and seeing how interested people might be in playing your story, what you could do to make playing your story fun, and who might be interested in collaborating with you to write it. Once you have done that, you can create it by entering your desired name for the Story into the search box and clicking '''Go'''. If the name has not already been taken, click <font color="red">this exact title</font> to start the story.<br><br>There are three general types of story. The first is the branching-plot story (an example of this is the Choose Your Own Adventure series of gamebooks), which require the reader to make choices but are otherwise like a regular novel. The second type is the role-playing game adventure, which combines the branching-plot novel with simple role-playing rules such as attack points and monster battles. The third type is the trivia quiz, where the player must answer questions as if they were on a game show.

The next to the last line here is the ''status indicator''. The status indicator shown here is the ''basic'' status indicator. Different stories use different status indicators, and some use none at all. Look at the edit screen for the page you're starting from and copy that status indicator to the new page you're adding. Modify as necessary.

Every page should have the category at the bottom. This keeps track of all the pages in the story. You can copy the category line from the previous page to the one you're working on. The category, obviously, is ''never'' 'name of story you're working on'. You type in the actual name of the story.

Instead, when you create a new page, call it [[You have to slay The Dragon/_Page 1]] or [[YOUR CRAZY/Give up]]. You can have the link name be whatever you want though, like this:

*Don't give too many options when starting a new story and leave half of them redlinked. Focus on a small number of story threads at first.
*Outline a general plan for what the intention of your story is when you start it: What genre and themes it belongs to.
*As alternative to plain formatting for your story, you may try using ''Italics'' to write the Narration, regular Font for character Dialogue and '''Bold''' for Character/Item/Location names or important developments. People have a tendency to create branches where the character dies. To prevent the story from being just a tree with all dead ends:
*For each page where you kill the player's character, you must create at least 2 pages (with content) where s/he can go on.
*Please stick to the theme and setting of the story, and discuss ideas for major changes on the discussion pages. Although creativity is encouraged, radical plot changes and inconsistencies will ruin the flow.
*If something is off topic, remove it.
*Try to capitalize and spell your words correctly.

*Pages with major spelling, grammar or other problems, but not problems that render the page spam and a candidate for deletion, should be categorized in the Pages Requiring Attention Category to get other editors to help fix it up. If a page is not yet complete, add it to Category:Pages Under Construction so people know the editor is still working on it and it does not need to have someone improve it.
