After you say it, you're not exactly sure how you knew it.

"Excellent, excellent," the voice says. "I am pleased I have made contact with you, I am in need of your services."

"My ... what?" you say.

"I need you to perform a task for me in your world. Tell me, will you accept?"

Cheapside:

You throw your hands up and wait for the goons to find the lightswitch. Standing there in your pants, you feel vulnerable. The goons train their pistols on you and one of them pulls a mobile phone. "We got him," says the goon down the phone. "No, no trouble at all, didn't fight or anything."

"Could I talk to them," you ask the goon with the phone.

"No chance. Keep your hands up, pal."

You stand there for a short while as the goon recieves his orders. He flips the phone closed, flips the safety off on his handgun and says to his colleagues, "The voice says we gotta make sure this guy is dead. So after we shoot him, we toss him out the window."

You look at the goons and realise the decisions you made could've been better. Hey, but at least you won't feel it when you hit the ground.

Interrogate one of the men

Cheapside:

You check the goons for vitals and find that only one of them is still alive. You haul him into the chair, tie his arms with the belts from his dead colleagues and wake him up with some cold water from the bathroom sink. He blinks up at you. "The hell is this?" he asks.

You cross your arms, give him your best stare-of-death and ask him who he works for.

"Never met him," the goon says. "Just a voice down a phoneline."

"The voice told you I was here?"

"We dropped you off here," the goon says. "Set up the phone by the bed so he could talk to you."

"Right," you say, understanding now that the voice in you head was nothing more than a neat trick. "Where did you pick me up?"

"Club Technoir, Raymond had you trussed up like a turkey. I've no idea how you got there, I swear."

You nod. Unfortunately for the goon, you can't trust him so you break his neck.

Cheapside:

As the adrenaline floods your body, you realise that you are already calculating the best method to dispatch these men like you're Jason Bourne or something. You vault the bed, kick one of the men in the head and karate chop a second in the throat as you land. The third man tries to bring his handgun onto you but you close the gap, push his arm away and strike him with you elbow in the side of his head.

All three are on the ground within seconds. One continues to move so you pick up the lamp from the bedside table and hit him with it. You push the door shut and flip the lights on. You find a black suit on the back of a chair, decide that it is better than walking about in just your pants and get dressed. You search the goons, take a handgun from one of them, a mobile phone from another and the cash from all three.

"Deadly serious," the voice says. "This man is highly dangerous, it would take a man of your considerable skills to kill him."

You remain silent.

"You must understand that time is important here, so I will need an answer immediately."

"I ... see," says the voice. "It is disappointing to hear. Since you refuse to aid me, then I cannot allow you to stand in my way."

You narrow you eyes, you do not understand much of what the voice is saying. You sit up in bed and look around. The room you are in is dimly lit from the window.

Outside you hear footsteps approaching the door to your room. Several people, you make out. A moment later the door is booted off its hinges and three men rush in. They are armed, but it is dim, and they do not immediately see you.

You tell the voice you are willing to help.

"A fine choice," the voice says. "You will find a handgun and some money is the drawer of the desk."

You open you eyes and see that you are in a unfamiliar room. You climb out of bed, find clothes on the back of a chair that fit you and take the pistol and cash from the drawer by the side of the bed. You open the curtains and see a city sprawlwed out before you. It is dusk.

"Where am I?" you ask.

"The City," the voice says. "Don't you remember?"

"No," you say.

"Yes, yes," the voice says, "the accident was rather traumatic. I understand you wouldn't want to remember everything you went through, Joe."

You pick up on the name Joe. "Is that my name?" you ask.

"Yes," the voice says. "Time is of the essence. You must go downstairs. There is a black sportscar in the garage, you have the keys in the pocket of your jacket. Please, go."
