RE:Information

Asema:

Welcome to the '''Ruined Earth''' information page.

== The Storyline ==

You are a civilian in a cosmopolitan city that stretches the lengths of the universe. Technology is so advanced as to be a constant arms race in all fields and industries, to see who can be even more perfect than the last market stealer. Money is an entire virtual possession, and all humans are linked up to a central computer system (IONC) from which echoes constant, droning orders. A few humans can resist their ties, and these humans are known as Thorns, for their constant status as a defiant of the central government's whims. Some humans are not even linked to this system, and they are exiled, hunted down, and killed. Even the computer, however, cannot control everything, and through the cracks slips danger. At the beginning of the game, you are a mortal Thorn who has armed himself (the protagonist is assumed to be male and is addressed as such for simplicity and because of genre conventions) with the basics needed to survive onslaughts. Throughout, you may find yourself changed in fundamental or minor ways.

== Combat & Options ==

Let's say you've just started the game. You've been through a fight or two, spoken with a young woman who has dedicated herself to defying the IONC, and gained a bit of experience. However, two agents have been dispensed like candy from a machine to deal with you properly. Your options:

{{Template:REStatus|StatusC=#CD5555|Status=''Bloodied!''|StatusP=#FFFFFF|Partner=Caellaech|Stuff=[[RE:Example|''(long weapons'') trip]], [[RE:Example|disarm]], [[RE:Example|''longsword'']], [[RE:Example|''gun'']], [[RE:Example|Caellach: support magic ''Gryva'']]}}

First, when an option is partially or completely in ''italics'', then that part of the option is required; so, to trip, you need a long weapon like a longsword or mercurial spear, whereas Caellach needs to know Gryva for you to have her unleash spellcasting death on her enemies. As you progress through the game, you will also end up tracking stats for a partner or partners. While you can only have one partner at once, most partners remain faithful even when you are socializing with a different partner. While partners permanently die, unlike yourself, there are more than twenty partners in total throughout the game's storyline, and the choice is both important from a mechanical and from a story standpoint. Caellaech is the easiest partner to get, but she's not the only option.

Your character's intentions are shaped in dialogues, where you're given several options. If no option suits you, or even if the wording just seems off, feel free to make your own option. However, I reserve the right to remove or modify any edits made to the game, in the interest of uniformity and coherency. And if I missed an option or you're using a different partner than indicated, add that option. In the case of the latter, the panel is an educated guess.

== Understanding Wounds ==

Enemy attacks, should they land (most attacks can be avoided with the right Aptitude, item, or even just dialogue choices) deal a certain amount of damage to your character. Your character has a '''threshold,''' an amount of damage he can take and deal with. Whenever damage exceeds this magic number, you gain wounds. From there, your enemy can batter you with what's called a '''kill attack'''; if you have X wounds, you die from the violent assault, and if you don't, you might well be wounded anyways.

Enemies have wounds as well; an enemy's threshold is clearly stated, and each attack you dish out deals some damage, too. Enemies also have a certain amount of wound points, though you can only use a kill attack if, much like against the protagonist, the enemy lets their guard down or simply falls due to your stupid brute force.

== Understanding Death ==

When you die, the game is over.

== Understanding Aptitudes ==

Aptitudes are special, passive abilities your character gains. They are specialized theories, inborn talents, and tricks of the trade that you gain that empower you to take actions you could not before, to grant you bonuses, and to do other neat things.

== Understanding Void Points ==

Some aptitudes call upon void points for their use. Each time you defeat an enemy, you gain 1 void point. You start with 5 void points.

== Advanced Concepts ==

'''Travel''': When not in combat, you can use this sprawling menu to travel anywhere in the city.

'''Headquarters''': Another one for the character sheet. Headquarters are areas where you can drop off and pick up goods and partners. Note them down like so: '''badass haus,''' partners here: none, sold here: awesome longsword (200c)

'''Equipment''': All weapons have different abilities, and empowered weapons have often extravagant, powerful abilities that only come up once in a while.

Ruined Earth

Asema:

Welcome to '''Ruined Earth,''' a setting in which you play as a citizen of Earth, and, potentially, a different, more important role as time passes. Throughout the game, you will be expected to record the number of '''wounds''' you have suffered throughout the game, as well as many other statistics. Below are some questions you are asked, and then how the format of your character sheet should appear. Thereafter, we'll get to playing the game. If you're curious about how this all works, [[RE:Information|click here]]. If you want to whine about how much this game sucks, go [[User talk:Asema|here]].

'''1. What is your name?'''

'''2. How are you inclined, morally? Pick one or two of the following: good intentions, ill intentions, varied intentions, inclined to follow rules, inclined to break rules, undeclared.'''

'''3. Would you rather have a blade (long sword) in your hands, or a gun (pistol) in your hands?''' Longswords deal slashing damage and are long. Guns deal ranged piercing damage at up to a medium range.

'''4. Would you rather be spiritual or smart?''' If the former, start with the spell [[RE:Basic Magic|Basic Magic]]. If the latter, start with a [[RE:Computer|Computer]].

'''5. Would you prefer to be on the receiving end, or the giving end?''' If the former, you have a threshold of 5. If you have the latter, you have a threshold of 4 and the ability extra damage.

'''6. Gain one [[RE:Aptitudes|Aptitude]], of your choice, that you meet the requirements for.'''

And here's a blank example character sheet.

'''name'''

'''threshold 0'''

'''condition OK'''

'''void 5'''

'''no partner'''

'''abilities: none, none, none'''

'''spells: none, none, none'''

'''items: none, none, none'''

Got that down? Good. You'll be referring to it a lot throughout the game.
Let's say you've just started the game. You've been through a fight or two, spoken with a young woman who has dedicated herself to defying the IONC, and gained a bit of experience. However, two agents have been dispensed like candy from a machine to deal with you properly. Your options:

{{Template:REStatus|StatusC=#CD5555|Status=''Bloodied!''|StatusP=#FFFFFF|Partner=Caellaech|Stuff=[[RE:Example|''(long weapons'') trip]], [[RE:Example|disarm]], [[RE:Example|''longsword'']], [[RE:Example|''gun'']], [[RE:Example|Caellach: support magic ''Gryva'']]}}

== Understanding Wounds ==

== Understanding Death ==

When you die, the game is over.

== Advanced Concepts ==

'''no partner'''

'''abilities: none, none, none'''

'''spells: none, none, none'''

'''items: none, none, none'''

Got that down? Good. You'll be referring to it a lot throughout the game.

Asema: Gaming of a different tint.

'''1. What is your name?'''

'''2. How are you inclined, morally? Pick one or two of the following: good intentions, ill intentions, varied intentions, inclined to follow rules, inclined to break rules, undeclared.'''

'''3. Would you rather have a blade (long sword) in your hands, or a gun (K19 Pistol) in your hands?''' Longswords deal slashing damage and are long. Guns deal ranged piercing damage at up to a medium range.

'''4. Would you rather be spiritual or smart?''' If the former, start with the spell [[RE:||Basic Magic]]. If the latter, start with a [[RE:||Computer]].

'''5. Would you prefer to be on the receiving end, or the giving end?''' If the former, you have a threshold of 5. If you have the latter, you have a threshold of 4 and the ability extra damage.

'''6. Gain one [[RE:||Aptitude]], of your choice, that you meet the requirements for.'''

And here's a blank example character sheet.

Asema:

Choose Your Own Adventure is a wiki that contains stories where the reader assumes the role of the main character. In each page you choose how the story should progress. If you don't see an option that you would like to pursue, click the edit tab on the top of the page and add a new path to the page. Then you get to write in your own adventure for the hero.

Please note that this site is specifically for Choose Your Own Adventure stories. If you choose to post stories that have no choices, your story will be deleted as such stories are not appropriate for this site.

Do you:
*[[Adventure/Option 1]]
*[[Adventure/Option 2]]
*[[Adventure/Option 3]]
</nowiki>
</pre>

The next to the last line here is the ''status indicator''. The status indicator shown here is the ''basic'' status indicator. Different stories use different status indicators, and some use none at all. Look at the edit screen for the page you're starting from and copy that status indicator to the new page you're adding. Modify as necessary.

===To edit a page===
Just click the edit tab on the top of the page

===To add an option===
<nowiki>[[Adventure name/New option name]]</nowiki>

Options that appear <font color="red">red</font> on the page have no content. Click the link, paste in the above template, and then add your own content.

This is for fun!

===Tips===
*To make it easier to add a page. Copy the text from the previous page into the current page
*Use images for equipment. It makes things more real. Do a [http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&imgsz=icon&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=knife&btnG=Search google image search for small images] and then add the url for the image in the equipment list. The image will show up when you save. Try to use the original image url and not the cached google image url.
*To make the story better, you can make the story go comepletely different directions, like one way you go to the moon, and the other way you'll die and go to hell.
|

==Rules==
People have a tendency to create branches where the character dies. To prevent the story from being just a tree with all dead ends:
*for each page where you kill the character, you must create at least 2 pages (with content) where he can go on.
*whenever you fill out the last option's page, add another one so the story can go another way.
*please stick to the theme and setting of the story. Although creativity is encouraged, radical plot changes and inconsistencies will ruin the flow.
*If something is off topic, remove it.
*Try to capitalize and spell your words correctly. We have a spell checker [[Spellcheck|here]], and the {{EL|www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox|Firefox}} web browser has one built in.
*'''ADD OPTIONS AND NOT JUST TEXT!!!!'''

==To Do List==
*Go through and fix or remove status indicators from pages.
**Some are not needed in stories and were copied and pasted from the template.
**Some are missing the level and MP from the line of code.
*Remove off-topic pages.
*Correct capitalization and spelling mistakes.
*Add a basic, or main, timeline of background events during the period that the character is making choices in - those events are usually out of the character's control. This will help add consistency.
