Mako's eyes brighten. "I do know the names of every Great Hunt winner, though. Fifteen years ago it was Bloodworthy...ten years ago it was the Defenestrator, quite the scary droid...Jewl'a Nightbringer won the last Great Hunt five years ago..."

Braden breaks in. "What she's saying is that every bounty hunter who's won a Great Hunt went on to massive glory and riches--which is why we're here." He winks at you.

"Here's what I know so far," Mako says. "The Great Hunt has two groups: the Mandalorian elite and the freelance bounty hunters sponsored by influential crime lords. There’s no time to make you a Mandalorian. That means you need a sponsor."

Ugh, a sponsor. You were thinking that was where this business would wind up, and you have a feeling your new friends are thinking to set you up with a Hutt. You never were much of a people person, so how are you supposed to win the favor of a greedy Hutt?

As if reading your mind, Braden continues. "Nem’ro the Hutt runs this stinking little town. I’ve got just enough pull with that gangster to get you an introduction. Mako, scan for every bounty in the area. I want the nastiest, most brutal, untouchable scum you can find."

"I'm on it, Braden," Mako says, turning her attention to her datapad once again. "One nasty character, coming right up."

"Get used to it," says Braden with a chuckle. "The three of us will be helping and guiding you to victory every step of the way. To win the Great Hunt you need support, structure, and intel. Let's do this official-like. This here's Mako, a little genius I picked up years ago on Nar Shadda. She provides intel and tech."

He gestures to the dark-skinned girl with the datapad. She turns toward you fully and smiles pleasantly. Her dark brown hair is pulled back into a short, messy ponytail with feathery ends sticking out all over the back of her head. For the first time, you notice two strips of metal implanted in the skin of her right temple and another strip extending downward to her cheekbone. So she is a cyborg... A blend of human and machine. You suppose the cybernetic implants must improve her slicing skills which is why she's so good at what she does. She catches you staring and crosses her arms, eyebrow raised. "Hope you're as good as the old man says," she smirks. "Wouldn't want to waste our time and money on anything less than the best."

"And this big bruiser is Jory." Braden continues before you can respond. He gestures to the other member of the team who'd been sitting quietly in a booth off to the side with his feet propped up on the table. "He handles the heavy lifting and provides security for our base of operations." You recognize Jory as a male Kadas'sa Nikto, one of the five subspecies of the reptilian Nikto. He has two large horns protruding from his forehead and a line of smaller horns leading from his forehead all the way back to the base of his neck like a sort of mohawk. He takes his feet off the table and sits up straighter, lifting a green-scaled hand in a gesture of greeting. With horns and a large barrel chest, he certainly looks intimidating. His blaster is on his belt, ready to use at a moment’s notice. A beer bottle and a pair of blasters are on the table in front of him. He says something in a sort of guttural hiss that you can't quite understand. The press of a button on the side of the tiny translator headset you wear over your left ear solves the problem. Though you can still hear the guttural hiss of his native tongue, you can now understand the Nikto's greeting. <Greetings. I am at your disposal. Feel free to make us all incredibly wealthy and famous.>

The group appears to be waiting for you to say something.

Tarro frowns. "I was just trying to be friendly."

"Yeah? Well get friendly with some other lady," you retort and stalk away from the bar.

You move away from the lights and the music and the smell of sweat and beer, toward the back of the cantina where the private rooms are. In the back right room is your contact: an aging gentleman named Braden who has agreed to be your mentor to prepare you for the Great Hunt. For a bounty hunter like yourself, the Great Hunt represents the pinnacle of success. Whoever wins is guaranteed fame and many profitable contracts. You could be set for life if you win this thing.

Braden is pacing the room with his hands clasped behind his back. His hair has been recently shaved off and he wears a red jumpsuit, gray armor, gloves, and a thick black belt. There is a blaster boldly strapped to his right leg. The fact that this bounty hunter has lived long enough to earn gray hair is a testament to his success. He stops to look over the shoulder of a young dark-skinned girl whose back is to you. She is busily typing something in to her datapad. You can tell from her intense focus that she is an experienced hacker. Braden is pleased with what he sees. "We're almost set up," he says to the girl. "See if you can get that security network running, Mako."

Mako nods. "Sure thing, Braden. We'll be..." She senses you watching her and glances behind her. "Hey now," she says, eyebrows raised.

Braden turns your way and smiles warmly. "Hey indeed. The main attraction is here." You step fully into the room and he strides to you. "Team," he says to the others in the room. "this is the girl we're pinning all our hopes on. Best shot I've ever seen and nerves of steel. She's Great Hunt material all right. What do you say, hunter? Ready to meet your team?"

It takes you a moment to realize he's talking to you, since your name isn't really Hunter. No one knows your real name and no one needs to know. Your hunter name is Shadow Fang, but who's asking? You consider Braden's question.

Tarro grins and summons the bartender. "Two Dobri Whiskeys, if you please." The bartender gives him a wink and mixes up the drinks right away. You accept yours and take a swig. It burns slightly going down, but leaves a warm feeling in your stomach. You can tell it's a cheap whisky, but what else would you expect from a place like this? Besides, it's free.

Tarro gulps his down quickly. "Ah...That hit the spot. So," he turns back to you. "Tell me, what brings a lovely young lady like yourself to a place like this?"

You take another swig of whiskey and then smirk. "You implying I can't handle myself in a backwater cantina?"

"No, of course not." he replies. "But with all the pollution and the gang warfare, Hutta doesn't make a good home for anyone."

"Oh, I'm not here to stay," you answer quickly.

"Then why are you here? You're not a bounty hunter, are you?"

"You bet I am," you say, throwing back the last of the whisky. "I'm actually here to prep for the Great Hunt." He's a Mandalorian so he's sure to be impressed by a mention of the Great Hunt.

Indeed, his eyes do light up at the name. "Impressive. Your name wouldn't happen to be Shadow Fang, would it?"

"How do you know?" you ask suspiciously.

You immediately recognize that he is a Mandalorian by his heavy white armor. He has a distinctive black tattoo across his right cheek. His dark hazel eyes glitter with interest. "Hello there, little lady," he says smoothly. "You look like you could use a stronger drink. Name's Tarro Blood and it'll be my treat."

You suppose the cybernetic implants must improve her slicing skills which is why she's so good at what she does. She catches you staring and crosses her arms, eyebrow raised. "Hope you're as good as the old man says," she smirks. "Wouldn't want to waste our time and money on anything less than the best."

"And this big bruiser is Jory." Braden continues before you can respond. He gestures to the other member of the team who'd been sitting quietly in a booth off to the side with his feet propped up on the table. "He handles the heavy lifting and provides security for our base of operations." You recognize Jory as a male Kadas'sa Nikto, one of the five subspecies of the reptilian Nikto. He has two large horns protruding from his forehead and a line of smaller horns leading from his forehead all the way back to the base of his neck like a sort of mohawk. He takes his feet off the table and sits up straighter, lifting a green-scaled hand in a gesture of greeting. With horns and a large barrel chest, he certainly looks intimidating. His blaster is on his belt, ready to use at a moment’s notice. A beer bottle and a pair of blasters are on the table in front of him. He says something in a sort of guttural hiss that you can't quite understand. The press of a button on the side of the tiny translator headset you wear over your left ear solves the problem. Though you can still hear the guttural hiss of his native tongue, you can now understand the Nikto's greeting. <Greetings. I am at your disposal. Feel free to make us all incredibly wealthy and famous.>

"Uh, thanks, but no thanks," you say.

"Oh please," Don't tell me you can resist this," the young man says gesturing to his attempt at a charming smolder. True, his toned physique might have tempted you, but that facial contortion is just plain creepy.

"I'm leaving," you state firmly. You get up quickly, pay for your meal, and stride purposefully toward the back of the cantina where the private rooms are. In the back right room is your contact: a retired bounty hunter named Braden who has agreed to be your mentor to prepare you for the Great Hunt. For a bounty hunter like yourself, the Great Hunt represents the pinnacle of success. Whoever wins is guaranteed fame and many profitable contracts. You could be set for life if you win this thing.

Braden is pacing the room with his hands clasped behind his back. His hair has been recently shaved off and he wears a red jumpsuit, gray armor, gloves, and a thick black belt. There is a blaster boldly strapped to his right leg. The fact that this bounty hunter has lived long enough to earn gray hair is a testament to his success. He stops to look over the shoulder of a young dark-skinned girl whose back is to you. She is busily typing something in to her datapad. You can tell from her intense focus that she is an experienced hacker. Braden is pleased with what he sees. "We're almost set up," he says to the girl. "See if you can get that security network running, Mako."

Mako nods. "Sure thing, Braden. We'll be..." She senses you watching her and glances behind her. "Hey now," she says, eyebrows raised.

Braden turns your way and smiles warmly. "Hey indeed. The main attraction is here." You step fully into the room and he strides to you. "Team," he says to the others in the room. "this is the girl we're pinning all our hopes on. Best shot I've ever seen and nerves of steel. She's Great Hunt material all right. What do you say, hunter? Ready to meet your team?"

"Understood," you answer. "I'd love to have you along, Mako," you say, turning to the beaming girl. "You and I will make a great team." She beams and moves to stand by your side.

Braden nods his approval. "Let Mako show you the ropes, but remember, she won't always be there to help you."

"She knows, Braden, she knows," Mako huffs. "Come on, let's go!"

The two of you head back into the main area of the Poison Pit Cantina. You feel your head clearing from the whisky you drank with Tarro.

"Hey," says Mako, "That little astromech over there looks like it's trying to get your attention." She points at a squat little brown astromech droid stationed near the exit to the cantina. It's wobbling back and forth on its legs and whistling excitedly.
