out the door, gear in hand. You have got some time to kill, so
why not explore the town a little? The blacksmith is almost
certainly not done with your shield, so no use checking in on
him, but there are other places around town. The only two
locations that might not require any money would be Delights,
a fairly sketchy establishment that anyone with a reputation
avoids, and Romania's Tonics. Romania is a good friend, whom
you have known since childhood, but she is rarely around. It
might be a waste of time to visit, sadly.

morning meal, the owner, a large, stout man walks towards you.
With an exasperated look on his face, he says quietly:

"Hey bud,
I know this place is free, but you gotta go out sometime. The
Explorer's Union only provides so much for you."

You've hardly a cent to your name, with only flexible leather
armor including a helmet, and a sword. The local smith was out
a shield, which kept you out a business. You spent the last of
your coin reserving a shield from the smith, with no way to
regain your funds. Your saving grace was this place, and now
you have to leave?

to not have to move towns. Unfortunately, your equipment is
quickly taken by the local blacksmith, per Union rules. Former
Explorer's Union people are not allowed to maintain possession
of Union only equipment if it was sold under Union restrictions.
No one offers to help you survive, and after about four days,
you die of dehydration mixed with disease. After a few weeks,
your body is found in an alley, starting to decay, surrounded
by rats and insects feasting on your body.

problems in it. They have a great reputation due to the reason
for opening, and have garnered enough support that there is an
inn found in almost every major town. Many stores will only
provide items such as swords, shields, or armor exclusively to
members of the Explorer's Union. Adventurers in the Union are
announced to the town in at most a day, with news spreading
quickly. There are, of course, rewards for being renowned,
mostly discounts directly from the Union's pockets.
