Doctor Who: Cracked Reality/Press the red button

You notice that one of the buttons in front of you flashes red, so you press it with a sense of giddiness. You have absolutely no idea where you're going to end up, making your travelling even more exciting.

Feeling the TARDIS drop out of the Vortex, the engines stop, telling you that you've landed. "Allons-y!" you murmur to yourself, straightening out your brown pinstripe suit. You throw on a long, tan coat - a gift from Janis Joplin - and walk down to the door. Opening it with the usual sense of excitement, you stand in the doorway, smiling away.

Ahead of you, there is a long purple beach. The TARDIS has parked herself on what seems to be just inside a cave, out of view of any natives.

Still, the sight is magnificent. Everything seems to have a violet hue to it, including the city that appears to be about fifteen minutes' walk away and the two moons orbiting. The tides of the sea are remarkably calm considering that both moons look extremely close to the planet. Then again, the sea is also a luminous shade of violet, so maybe certain elements of physics aren't going to behave in the usual way here.

In the distance, you can hear the usual noise of a bustling city at night. Outside the TARDIS now, you check behind you and see the cave a little better. The sand is flat, and a lot of what could be water is in the caves. Because that's also bright violet, it helps to illuminate the caves, showing a beautiful network of tunnels.

There are so many places to explore!

"Oi! Haven't got all day, you know!" Suddenly impatient at the idea of new friends and enemies, you frown at the central column. Bending down, you pull out a hammer from underneath the panel and start banging away on the circuitry.

The TARDIS beeps back at you in annoyance, but you ignore her. As you keep hammering away at the controls, turquoise sparks fly from the column. That's the last thing that you see before you accidentally end up smashing through the TARDIS shield commands...

...so the Time Vortex rips both the TARDIS and you apart. Not even a Time Lord can regenerate in the depths of space-time.

All over the universe, enemies are born or reappear, destroying countless worlds that you were meant to save. The last of the Time Lords, gone forever.

Sighing heavily, you force that daft grin on your face. With one hand, you ruffle your chocolate brown hair so it sticks up in a million different, fluffy spikes. It'll be just like old times. Although Earth is your favourite planet, there are a million billion others all across time and space that you haven't even heard of.

The grin suddenly isn't forced as you start to get excited about the prospect of a new adventure. It's going to be brilliant!

With a flick of some switches and other random calibrations, you hear the TARDISes engines firing up into their usual, happy wheeze. Excellent! Although you're the one rushing around and doing all kinds of different things to the control panel, you know that deep down, it's the TARDIS herself that decides where and when to go - just about. When you have friends, sometimes the places are dangerous or fantastic to relax in, but when you're on your own... well, that's another story.

"C'mon, old girl!" you exclaim. As you hurtle through the Time Vortex in your ship, you feel a slight bump. It's not unusual, but not extremely common, either. Oh, well. You figure that whatever is supposed to happen will happen.

Ignoring the bump, you concentrate on the panel in front of you. You only need to put in the final command...

Hesitating, you look at the small tourist shack and then wonder if your friends really would like to see you. After everything that they had been through, all of the pain and suffering with every appearance you make... maybe it's better if you just move on entirely. If you're meant to meet again, you will, right?

Taking a deep breath, you decide that going back to the TARDIS is the best thing to do. Nobody noticed you, so that doesn't matter. You unlock the door to the TARDIS and step back inside, the machine humming as a welcome back, even though you were only outside for a couple of minutes.

You return to the main control panel and force a smile. This is definitely for the best. You can carry on, maybe forget about Earth for a while and adventure somewhere else. Or you can just visit another time, like you usually do.

You give a small smile. Captain Jack and Martha will be thrilled to see you, especially when the Earth isn't in danger for a change. You press a few buttons on one side of the central control panel and dash around to the other side, turning an old-fashioned wheel. Two levers are yanked upwards, finishing the job.

As you look up at the glowing turquoise column, you grin wildly. The familiar wheezing of the engine begins, and you can feel yourself spinning through the Time Vortex. As you travel, you feel a bump in the vortex stream, but it doesn't really concen you. Stranger things have happened. Still, it only takes a minute or for the TARDIS to materialise in Cardiff, just in front of the tourist's helpdesk that disguises one of the entrances to Torchwood. Excellent. Although you never passed your TARDIS flying exam, you've finally managed to get the hang of appearing roughly where you want to be.

Now, you walk down the metal mesh floor of the TARDIS and open the door. It's an average day, grey cloud covering most of the sky. Nobody notices a blue police box that's bigger on the inside because of the perception filter in the circuitry. Humans don't even realise that it's there, as they're too busy with their own business to really try and look for anything unusual.

Locking the door behind you, you shove your hands into the pockets of your long, tan coat. You decided to return to wearing the brown pinstripe suit instead of the blue to keep a small memory of your time with Rose Tyler near the surface and... well, it's a more comfortable suit.

Anyway! It's time to go and find your old friends.

Doctor Who: Cracked Reality/What about Donna Noble?

Frowning for a moment, you wonder about your old friend Donna Noble. How about going to see her? That's when you remember that you were forced to put blocks in her memory. After she ended up taking your intelligence into her human brain, she slowly started to die... and if you remind her of the past, her brain will start to deteriorate again, no going back.

How could you forget that?

Shaking your head of the thought, you remember that you can never safely see her again, and have to just think about her fondly. Bringing back memories of someone else that you've lost has strengthened your resolve to do something to forget for a while, though, so you decide whether to see other friends or start a brand new set of adventures alone.

Back in your living, symbiotic ship, the TARDIS, you sigh at the main control panel. Suddenly you realise exactly how alone you are once more and grit your teeth. After centuries of travelling, you should realise by now that you can't keep friends forever. When you were first exiled to Earth from your home planet, Gallifrey, you accidentally took a pair of humans as companions. After that, it was rare for you not to have someone else with you, sharing your adventures. Not now, though.

Staring at the buttons and levers in front of you, you decide that it's pointless to sit and brood over something that you can't change. Like always, you prefer to keep travelling, keep having adventures and forget about your past for a while.

At the same time, though, there's a little part of you that misses your most recent friends terribly. Although the one that means the most to you is gone forever in a parallel world - Rose Tyler - it would be nice to catch up with your allies in Torchwood, namely Captain Jack Harkness, Mickey Smith and Martha Jones.
