You walk for a long time, but eventually reach the town.
There is a small gatehouse inside the town, and after the guard lets you in, he tells you about some places you might want to go.
The Weary Wayfarer is a good tavern and inn. The mage guild is the home of Delon the mage, who can supply all of your magic needs.
