Your first conscious thought is of an intense desire, a thirst. Gradually other thoughts filter in. Your name is Melissa Parker. You're a lawyer at the Lager and Hays firm in New York. And now you're a vampire. You have no doubt of that. The bloodlust is almost overpowering.

You open your eyes and pick yourself up from the cobbles. Walfreid is watching you. He smiles, seemingly satisfied. "I have vun piece of advice for you: Be discrete. You may go now, if you vish. In fact, I advise it." With that, he turns into a bat and flies out one of the broken windows.

You're left alone in the chapel, wondering what to do. There seems nothing else but to go back to town. Actually, that's a very inviting thought. You could certainly satisfy your hunger there. The thought both horrifies you and attracts you. Eventually the attraction wins out.

You instinctively know how to shapeshift. You fly to the edge of the forest and transform back to human form. You walk through the dark streets until you reach the inn. You knock on the door. Herr Gauman opens it a crack. When he sees it's you, he lets you in. He gives you a once-over.

"I'm glad you're back" he says. "We were worried after you didn't come back with Hans."

You want to lunge at him, but you restrain yourself. Be discrete . "Yeah. It's been a rough day." With that, you go up to your room. You wait until he and his wife have gone to bed before you prey on them. You take only a little. You don't want suspicion thrown on yourself.

Next morning hits you hard. The sunlight hurts your eyes, and you feel terribly lethargic. You have no desire to stay in this place. These people believe in vampires, and you're not particularly safe. You call your boss. "I'm quitting the case, and I'm coming home."

"Why?" he asks incredulously.

You search for a reason that wouldn't sound crazy. "I don't want to tell you on the phone."

There's silence on the other end. Then, "Okay. We'll get you on the first flight out. We'll talk more about this when you're back. Did you find out anything about Michael?"

"Not really."

Back home, you manage to BS well enough to keep your job. However, it soon becomes clear that there's been a change in you. You're more ruthless, and you pursue your cases with an intensity and unscrupulousness that no one else can match. You become a much sought after lawyer. When opponents who have just lost their case mutter "bloodsucking lawyer," you smile inwardly, because it's more true than they realize.
