"That's exactly why I call you." Adam sounds anxious and scared, which, under the current circumstances, could be a lot worse.

You pick up the phone without looking at the caller ID, and try to zip up your jeans at the same time. Serena is also making herself busy with getting dressed.

"Hello?" you ask, putting the phone between your chin and shoulder, meanwhile nicely catching the shirt your girlfriend throws at you.

"Dude, it's me, Adam."

Adam Jacobs has been your best friend since high school. Although he's a textbook kind of a nerd, who is obsessed with D&D stuffs and socially awkward, he did help you a lot with your maths and physics. And he's actually quite funny when there's no stranger around. After high school, he went on studying journalism at university and is now a blogger who is somewhat recognizable among local youths.

"Hey man," you change hand, and hastily throw on the shirt without buttoning it up, "we got z's down on the street. Can't talk now. Gotta run."

"That's exactly why I call you." Adam sounds anxious and scared, which, under the current circumstances, could be a lot worse.

"There're zombies in my neighborhood. And we're stuck in the house."

"Why? I thought your parents had a car?"

Despite being at the age of 22 and self-employed, Adam still lives with his parents and his little brother Michael.

"I haven't heard from them since they left for Vegas 3 days ago." he sounds even more upset, "And they took the car with them."

"Oh. Okay. No problem. We can pick you up." you say, feeling bad for him, "But we don't even know where we're heading."

"I think I know just the person that can give us a safe place to stay." he says, lightens up a little bit, "but first I'll have to make some calls."

"Alright. We'll be there in about an hour. Get yourselves ready."

Hanging up, you turn to Serena and briefly explain the "plan" to her. Nodding, she says, "Sure, we should definitely pick them up."

It's a good thing that after rumors about some zombified test subjects escaping a military facility down south started circulating on the Internet 2 nights ago, you guys have already packed 2 emergency kits. One contains bottled water and food, and the other clothing and some other tools like threads and needles, flashlights and batteries, etc.. All you need to do now is to find yourselves some weapons for self-protection then you're good to go.

You pull out the night table drawer and tuck that 9mm SIG to your butt like some gangster in the movie. You've always aced in the shooting range but have never really fired your weapon to an actual person, or in this case, zombie. However, now it's time for your untested skill to potentially save your lives.

Serena takes the baseball bat from the closet and slips the (illegal) brass knuckles to her back pocket. Being a seasoned kickboxer, she's a better fighter than you are when it comes to hand-to-hand combat.

So now you're all set. And there're zombies outside and possibly inside your apartment building. How do you want to get out of here?
