"I'll correct that mistake."  you say.  Without taking your eyes off him, you take out your stake.  The coarse wood is reassuring.  The stake firmly in hand, you reach for your crucifix.  It's not there.  You look down.  The chain is gone.  You must have lost it when you went through the window.  Without it, how are you going to repel Walfreid?  He's too strong and too fast for you otherwise.  You struggle to your feet and back away.

You've backed almost to the window.  You can feel the breeze behind you, and the curtain flutters slightly.  Walfreid is closing the distance between you, clearly relishing your fear.  It's go time.

You decide to break the window. You fasten the drapes back and search the room for something to break the window with. you find a long candlestick that should do the job nicely. You pound it against the window to no avail. You switch tactics and ram it at the window instead. The panes shudder, but don't break. You take a few steps back and take a running start at the window. The panes smash, but you have too much momentum, and you can't stop. Desperately, you drop the candlestick and grab at the window frame. Broken glass grinds into your hand, and you swing over the edge. You teeter there before getting a grip with your other hand. You push yourself back into the window.

The drapes swing back into place, and the room is again shrouded in darkness. Your hand hurts. As your eyes readjust, you pick glass out of your hand. It's ripped up, but still usable. Now you have to figure out how to get to the ground. They always use bedsheets to rappel down castle walls, right? Why shouldn't that work for you?

You wrap your bleeding hand up as best you can, and start tying sheets together. All the while you keep your eyes in the door. It's not long before you're interrupted.

"Zo, Melissa, I see you found ze crypt." Walfreid sneers. His voice is not coming from the doorway. It's coming from the other side of the room. You turn to face him. His face is contorted with anger.

"Yes, I did," you say boldly. "and I killed them all."

His voice lowers. "But you missed one. Me." He advances toward you.

"No zo brave vithout your bauble, are you?" he taunts. "I'm not just goink to kill you. You've killed my companions, and I do rather need to replace zem. I vill start vith you. You'd make a decent vampire, I zink."

You've backed almost to the window. You can feel the breeze behind you, and the curtain flutters slightly. Walfreid is closing the distance between you, clearly relishing your fear. It's go time.
