@Platypus... I was about to leave you a message about something else when I noticed that you have a tendency to archive discussions on this page approximately once per year at around this time. Your conversation tab was getting pretty big and cluttered here, so I created a 7th archive to stuff everything into and placed all the conversations that already haven't been archived into there. Also created an 8th archive for you to use in the future! Hope it helps! --Durzan 21:19, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

Additional note: You might also want to ask everyone to put their signature and date whenever they post, and to create a new section whenever they are starting a new topic or discussion with you (commenting on a different discussion can be done under a previous section). It will help keep things organized here, and since you are the only active admin, it is essential. --Durzan 21:26, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

While it is of course a bit obvious that 6 or 10 is underage, what is the lower measure allowed on the site to not be considered underage?
-
Adult Section and Organization
+
While most countries make it illegal sexual images of women under 18, the age of consent varies, and with it the age you could write about probably does too.
 +
The most common age of consent under 18 is 16, Japan seems to allow 14, last I checked my own country was 12, which surprised me, not taking it in consideration but thought important to mention.
-
Hey Platypus, I've been working on creating categories to help organize stuff better. Could you do me a favor and change the Adult Section's category from System Pages to :Category:Story Ratings? That way its classified in with the other Story Rating categories. This was what I was meaning to ask you about before I got side tracked.
+
Either way my point is, at what age is it allowed to be written about without breaking the "no underage sexual content" rule?

Hey Platypus, I just finished the initial rough draft for the new Main Page (linked in the heading title). The idea is to clean it up a bit and provide a bit more structure by cutting out the links and tables that show off the stories and move them to their own pages. At the same time, I put in spaces and placeholders for additional information that new users would need to know and understand before actively starting or editing pages here. What do you think? Any suggestions? Feel free to edit and add onto it, as while I started the darn thing, I dunno that I can finish it. I am not that good with advanced formatting. Put your feedback on the discussion page, as it will be easier for me to find.

Hey Platypus, I just finished setting up the necessary sub-pages for the new main page design. Still probably needs some work, but right now, its functional (apart from the lack of content in the Etiquette section -- I need to talk with you and others about what should go in that spot). Could you do me a favor and look it over when you have the time to do so? If everything is good, I'll transfer the contents of the page to the main page as soon as I get a green light from you, otherwise I will continue to update the rough draft page according to what you deem needs to be improved.
+
Hey, I'm not sure if I'm asking in the right format, but is there no way to add an image in pages anymore? I tried the method in the tutorial of adding a link but all I get is a captcha circle. Sorry again if this question is in the wrong area/format!

Alright, I updated the new Main Page draft. Re-added in the sample stories, but it should look a bit nicer. Updated some of the story tag templates with different colors, and added the Abandoned tag template. Also included notes on what the Private, Public, DNE, and Abandoned tags mean under the Etiquette section. May need to work on the wording a bit.
+
Edit - If it's not too much trouble, would you be able to send me a link to one of these new pages? So that I can hopefully replicate it? But if you're busy don't worry about it, I'll keep an eye out myself :)

Hey Plat, just wanted to tell ya that the user Tr0ll seems to have just redone his spam on the main page and who knows where else. That includes your talk page. I've been trying to reverse it wherever I can, but unless this person is banned, they'll likely just keep doing this nonsense.
-
I finally got around to adding the rules to the Main Page (2019), and although the rules are fairly simple in nature, they could use some clarification and/or some rewording for newer people.
+
Edit: Currently working on getting some of the conversations that were deleted from this page into the Archive 8 page and keeping some of the more recent stuff back on this page. I tried to just undo the troll's post, but got hit with the external link error.
-
Rule 1 in particular could use some clarification, as from what I've been able to tell, there are still plenty of remnants of under-age sex in the various adult stories that I've come across (including Rampage).
+
-
Since I am familar with the context of the creation of Rule 1 (it came about in part because of rampant stories involving pedophillia, and to a lesser extent because of the rampant use of underage sex in general), it is worth noting that the actual definition of Pedophillia is defined as a having a sexual attraction for prepubescent minors, which is generally legally interpreted as minors being 13 years of age or younger... though that is not strictlItalic texty speaking accurate either. Do note that it is not a general term for being attracted or having sex with a minor in general. Technically, there are at least 3 different terms that describe having sex or being attracted to a minor: Pedophillia (Attraction to prepubescent minors), Hebephilia (Attraction to pubescent minors in early adolescence, typically between the ages of 11 & 14), and Ephebophilia (attraction to adolescences between the ages of around 15 to 19). Further more, the age of sexual consent varies from state to state and country to country, going as low as the age of 14.
+

-
Side Note: While I am not saying the rule should be changed, but I feel like it would be beneficial to state things a bit more clearly on exactly where the line is drawn... especially considering that there are still several stories on the wiki that portray underage sex, and that change regarding it could be beneficial if implemented with caution and prudence. The wording of a rule should reflect the actual enforcement that comes along with it, and prudence should be factored in as well. With regards to rule 1, it is worth asking if an outright ban is appropriate verses a soft ban where you judge the severity of the situation on a case by case basis. Not to mention the cases where a character's exact age isn't stated but is implied. A line does need to be drawn somewhere, and while I do think the current line is a good place, I also realize that it is somewhat restrictive in what stories you can tell. Sometimes a story calls for a character to be underage in order for it to work properly, and in such instances what then? Teenage protagonists and victims are a common trope, that while it should be used sparingly, it should still be used at times when it is appropriate and necessary.

Alternative home for Smutty?
-
Reaffirmation: I do find pedophillia and manipulation of minors for sexual purposes to be abhorrent in thought and practice, and when it comes to stories, I draw the line at incredibly graphic descriptions of child abuse, having sex with prepubescent children, and other such issues. A good rule of thumb for me is If the characters involved they are 15 or older, I can tolerate it, but I intellectually disapprove and find it somewhat distasteful; 13 or younger is despicable and I will turn away and/or report; and if its incredibly violent and graphic above and beyond the usual stuff, I will also report, etc.

I looked a little further into that Miraheze wikifarm Durzan recommended; seems like they might actually allow a site like this. The most similar (to CYOS) existing site I found was Star Wars Erotica Wiki (swew.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page) (EDIT: and it's not so similar as I thought; it links to a separate CYOA style star wars erotica wiki, and I confused the two, but it's still a decent example of a markedly adult site hosted on the Miraheze platform). And a few years ago someone made a request for a Yiff wiki that was approved, so I can't see them turning down a CYOS style site (you can see the discussion about the Yiff wiki here-> meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Meta:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Archive_2#Not_Safe_for_Work_Content_Policy.3F).

1. Everything has to be legal in Netherlands, U.S., and U.K., (so rule 1 still stands, since underage sex stories are a legally grey area at best) and
 +

 +
2. No pornographic images of real people (drawings and 3D renders seem to be fine)
 +

 +
It's possible I've missed something else important in the Content Policy, so you might want to have a look at it for yourself (meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Content_Policy). Additionally, Miraheze is free and ad-free.

Regarding the transfer of stories, the 'import' function would almost definitely be available to Bureaucrats (MediaWiki permission defaults even let Admins use it). So moving Smutty Sex Romp and Rampage would be very possible, if time consuming (as only small xml files can be imported using 'import,' around 100 pages in size). I'll make another set of Smutty Sex Romp xml files suitable for transferring this way soon. I'd be happy to help you import them if you'd like.

I know you said you weren't considering relocating right now, but maybe some of this will be useful in the future. Seems like RobKohr has no plan to fix the issues any time soon (editthis.info/wiki/User_talk:RobKohr#Not_dead).

If you don't mind my asking, why are you so hesitant to relocate?

:Oh, that makes sense. You were working on it quite a bit earlier this year though. I figured you'd stopped because of how ungodly slow the website has become, and I hadn't considered that you might have lost interest.
 +

 +
:So far as my understanding goes, you'd still have plenty of ability to keep litter out on the other farm. If you create a new wiki on Miraheze, you'll have the Bureaucrat user rights. And it would be your wiki: you could write up the rules any way you wanted to, with even more power to enforce them. If you were to switch over, you would not have to worry about any loss of content moderating authority.
 +

 +
:And trying it out has almost no risk. It's possible that they won't allow smut on their servers, and the worst case where they decide not to host the wiki, nothing really changes. We're just stuck on editthis, with one more possibilty ticked off the list.
 +

 +
:Of course there is no real urgency as far as moving is concerned, but it would be great to read and edit Smutty (and any other stories that would be moved over) on a website that works. I'll stop buzzing in your ear about it, but please give Miraheze some consideration and let me know if you change your mind.

I probably should have done a little more lurking before contributing to your story. Smutty Sex Romp is a wonderful work, and I wanted (want) to help add to it. Anyway, I might have jumped the gun a little. I made an account and added a few contributions before realizing Smutty Sex Romp was your work, and that you have perhaps higher standards than I can meet right now (knowing very little about creative writing, formatting a wiki, and whatnot). The first place I contributed was in your story, when I should've started in the sandbox.
 +

 +
I got a little carried away. Not that seven pages is insane, but I figured I should stop here and make sure what I've added is okay. It's easier to delete or fix seven pages than seventy (especially with the dial-up speed this site is running at). And since it's your story it's a-okay with me if you decide to delete all of my additions, no questions asked. I like what you've got going here, and I don't want to throw ants in your cereal.

Thank you for your quick response, Platypus. Most of what you said is basically stuff I already guessed at, but the way you put it was as straight forward and as clear as it could be presented. When looking at the rule itself, as well as the context surrounding it, I must say that there is still some serious potential for confusion. That means that we are still left with the problem of interpretation and enforcement of Robkohr's request as well as his intent. Fortunately, interpretation of literature is one of my strengths (I am majoring in English after all, and interpreting and understanding texts is a big part of what I've been taught), so I can give some possible insight into this.
+
:Hello again! I was looking through the Pages Requiring Attention, and all of them had a 'This database did not find the text of a page..." error message. I figured you'd deleted or moved them, but for whatever reason the category stuck. I blanked this one to see if that would remove the category stamp. Of course it did, but now the page doesn't have a category (which I've heard annoys you). I think I want you to delete Paladin/Caladbolg18 for me, if it's not too much trouble. Is it normal that moved/deleted pages keep categories like this, or is this something else?
-
First off, I must reiterate that the confusion stems from the use of the term "Pedophillia" being used interchangeably with the term "underage sex" when the two are not actually the same thing. Pedophellia is a form of underage sex, but not all underage sex is necessarily Pedophillia. Legally speaking (at least in the US) when talking about underage sex, Pedophillia is associated with having sex with someone who is 13 years or younger. IE, Pedophillia within that context is dealing with a specific form of having sex with a minor.
+
:I've been wondering about those maintenance reports as well. I don't want you to go out of your way if the answer is complicated, but do they work at all? The uncategorized pages and deadend pages reports would be handy if they actually updated.
-
Second, Robkohr's is currently (or at least was), as far as I can tell, the systemop for the entire editthis.info service and NOT specifically the admin/systemop for this specific wiki. To reinforce this point, he specifically said "I don't monitor the content on the site" when he initially brought it up. IE, its not usually his job to monitor and deal with the concerns and day to day issues of a specific wiki. He only got involved because someone specifically told him about it, AND after doing some research came to the conclusion that allowing such content was in a legally grey area at best that could cause problems for the hosting website as a whole. If he says something or makes a request, it falls to the wiki admins (IE. you) to interpret and enforce them on each of the wikis. Effectively, RobKohr is the regional manager, while you are the store manager.  In other words, the specific rules and policy of the wiki are effectively under your area of authority... meaning that you can interpret, enforce, and change  the rules and policies (at least within reasonable confines). If new information is presented on the situation, then logically speaking, you have the power to adjust the policy of the wiki to reflect the new information.
+
:Also, do you have a category for delete requests? I'm sorry if this isn't the place to ask for them.
-
Third and most importantly, when looking at the wording and content of Robkohr's original mandate, it becomes clear that his initial and primary intent was to deal specifically with pedophillia (due to the fact that he specifically filtered a story that was expressly about a person deliberately having rampant sex with 10-year-olds). Based on the contextual evidence that he put a filter in over the story that he censored, we can reasonably conclude that at least some of the contents of that story is where he initially drew the line at. So that means that there is a hard line ban on content that approaches that level of explicitness in the area of underage sex. Since pedophillia is expressly defined as being attracted to prepubescent (IE children who haven't begun the biological process of becoming sexually mature yet; the upper cutoff point for still being prepubescent is age 13), that means that the hard ban on underage sex is at a bare minimum restricting the explicit portrayal of sex with dealing with children who are 13 years old or younger. Such has to be his intent, judging by the context.
+
:In any case, thanks for helping me out! --Pickles 17:39, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
-
The problem is, of course, when he says "If you find any content explicitly related to sex with a minor, please remove it or edit it." Note the points that I emphasized. He phrased it as a conditional request, and didn't clarify. He didn't say what to edit it to, didn't define what he meant when he said "explicitly related" meant, and didn't clarify if he was referring to underage sex as being under the age of consent, under the age where they would have certainly started puberty, and so forth. Is he talking about underage sex in general (which is what it is assumed to mean, and thus that became the current interpretation enforced by Rule 1)? If so, are cases of consensual sex between two minors allowed? These are just some of the questions that you should be asking us and yourself platypus.
+
P.S. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly on my last message! I'm glad I've got your seal of approval.
 +
P.P.S. Is it just me or is the site loading faster today?
-
He gave a request and you are tasked with interpreting and enforcing it since he didn't specify (thats your perogative, especially since it is fairly apparent that he's not exactly reliable when it comes to trying to contact him). You can gleen from the context of his earlier sentences that he was probably targeting some specific aspects of the story, but that isn't quite certain. In other words, what I am saying is that as the acting admin, YOU need to refine and clarify the meaning of rule 1. Heck you can even relax its restrictions if you want to. There's plenty of wiggle room for it.

Having a problem creating an account
-
The story itself was written before the underage sex ban was put into effect, and was abandoned completely when the author went AWOL three years ago. The original author had noticed that the original had a bunch of broken links and decided to take the opportunity to start over, leading to the second version of the story. However, he never finished transferring over the pages he had already finished, and since the story was private, nobody else had added any new content.
+
Hello. Obviously, I have an account on Create Your Own Story, but I want to create an account on the main editthis.info page. I keep trying, but the same thing happens every time. I put in the username and the password. I made sure that the passwords were the same. I did the captcha. But every time I go to create the account, I get an error message: "Could not open socket in ./common/recaptcha/recaptchalib.php". I don't know who else to tell about this, so here I am. If you don't know anything about this, then could you please tell someone else who does. Thank you.
-
I was not adding any new content to the story, but going through and copying and pasting the missing routes from the original into the remastered version, consolidating a few pages, that sort of thing. I was NOT adding or writing any new content. I was planning and am still planning to go through one by one and update them to fit current standards and try to remove the underage sex by upping the age as you suggested.

On the surface, there seems to be a fairly easy to superficially adjust the story so that it works as the only place where Bayley's age/school year is mentioned is in the opening page (AFAIK), which is where it says she's a 5th grader. I've been pondering how to make the changes on the title page for the characters that need to be aged up without seriously messing up continuity errors in the story like what happened in Rampage and Smutty Sex Romp, but haven't yet come up with any decent solutions. However, upon looking closer, I realized that even with doing an artificial age bump, Bayley's character would still look and act like a 5th grader in all subsequent pages. I dunno about you, but if a character is stated to be 18 in the opening pages and was acting like a 5th grader... wouldn't that make me think that it was a flimsy edit or excuse to hide underage sex? That seems like a morally gray area that the rules of the site do not address one way or another.
+
Final touches to the Tutorial
If it breaks the rules, then I would have to go through every single page and significantly alter the story, which wasn't my original intent (remember I am just consolidating information, and making grammar/clarification edits, not adding anything new).

Hello. I was poking around the wiki and noticed that the Tutorial needed a bit of a clean-up, so I've tried my best. == Is this website dead? ==
-
With the Abandoned tag, my intent was that a story with the abandoned tag (and thus hasn't been worked on by the primary author) is up for being "adopted" by another more active user.
+
Is there any consistent updates of storys and active members?
-
To reflect this, I recently created and added the new Adopted tag to the main page. The idea (which I pulled from CHYOA) is that if someone wishes to continue or maintain a story that has been abandoned for a while, they can attach that tag to the story and basically take up the mantle of the main author. This is to ensure that all abandoned stories have a chance of being worked on and actively maintained. Of course, if the original author returns and starts working on it again, then the adopted author should respect the original author's wishes.
+
--------------------
-
My reason for doing this is that there are many private stories (or public stories that see little activity), that only had one author working on them, and then all of a sudden, the user just stops coming. Those stories just sit there, with no love.
+
The link I changed didn't match up with the continuation of the the story path
-
Another thought that I had as a possibility, is that abandoned stories could be edited by anyone, regardless of its original status.

Hey Plat,

I've been trying to contact User:Tapdancingfish (who hasn't been active in two years) but I've had little luck so far. Any leads or ideas on how to go about it? Already tried his skype, and that doesn't work; don't know his/her email address (besides, he/she has already forgotten the password once, so not sure it would be effective anyway).

Hey, I was wondering if you could rename a few pages? Specifically I was wondering if you could rename these pages:Josh._An_18-year_old,_brown-haired_football_player, Miranda._A_17-year-old_brown-haired_girl, and Chelsea._The_36_yo,_blonde-haired_volleyball-playing_mother_of_the_3_kids_above.
-
Apologies for grammar infractions
+
Specifically I'd like them to be renamed by increasing the ages of Miranda and Josh by a year and change blonde-haired to brunette.
-
Thanks for the input on the pages I submitted. I've fixed a few capitalization mistakes and a missing period. Don't know why I didn't see those earlier. I don't intend on being a heavy contributor, but I would like to expand on a few neglected branches of the Rampage and SSR stories. If I do add more pages I'll be sure to check and double-check grammar before posting.

Since this page has become rather cluttered, I've moved old discussions to the archive pages below. Feel free to leave new messages here. I'll get back to you ASAP!

What measure is an Underage

While it is of course a bit obvious that 6 or 10 is underage, what is the lower measure allowed on the site to not be considered underage?

While most countries make it illegal sexual images of women under 18, the age of consent varies, and with it the age you could write about probably does too. The most common age of consent under 18 is 16, Japan seems to allow 14, last I checked my own country was 12, which surprised me, not taking it in consideration but thought important to mention.

Either way my point is, at what age is it allowed to be written about without breaking the "no underage sexual content" rule? (I did search the archives, but could not find it. At best I found someone asking the same thing on Archive5, but it seems to have gone unanswered for them too.

Adding Images

Hey, I'm not sure if I'm asking in the right format, but is there no way to add an image in pages anymore? I tried the method in the tutorial of adding a link but all I get is a captcha circle. Sorry again if this question is in the wrong area/format!

Edit - If it's not too much trouble, would you be able to send me a link to one of these new pages? So that I can hopefully replicate it? But if you're busy don't worry about it, I'll keep an eye out myself :)

Ban Tr0ll

Hey Plat, just wanted to tell ya that the user Tr0ll seems to have just redone his spam on the main page and who knows where else. That includes your talk page. I've been trying to reverse it wherever I can, but unless this person is banned, they'll likely just keep doing this nonsense.

Edit: Currently working on getting some of the conversations that were deleted from this page into the Archive 8 page and keeping some of the more recent stuff back on this page. I tried to just undo the troll's post, but got hit with the external link error.

Alternative home for Smutty?

Do you have Smutty Sex Romp up on a different site, P? If not, have you considered relocating? Anedwcan 13:13, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

-

Main NSFW content rules seem to be that

1. Everything has to be legal in Netherlands, U.S., and U.K., (so rule 1 still stands, since underage sex stories are a legally grey area at best) and

2. No pornographic images of real people (drawings and 3D renders seem to be fine)

Oh, that makes sense. You were working on it quite a bit earlier this year though. I figured you'd stopped because of how ungodly slow the website has become, and I hadn't considered that you might have lost interest.
So far as my understanding goes, you'd still have plenty of ability to keep litter out on the other farm. If you create a new wiki on Miraheze, you'll have the Bureaucrat user rights. And it would be your wiki: you could write up the rules any way you wanted to, with even more power to enforce them. If you were to switch over, you would not have to worry about any loss of content moderating authority.
And trying it out has almost no risk. It's possible that they won't allow smut on their servers, and the worst case where they decide not to host the wiki, nothing really changes. We're just stuck on editthis, with one more possibilty ticked off the list.
Of course there is no real urgency as far as moving is concerned, but it would be great to read and edit Smutty (and any other stories that would be moved over) on a website that works. I'll stop buzzing in your ear about it, but please give Miraheze some consideration and let me know if you change your mind.

Am I doing this right?

I probably should have done a little more lurking before contributing to your story. Smutty Sex Romp is a wonderful work, and I wanted (want) to help add to it. Anyway, I might have jumped the gun a little. I made an account and added a few contributions before realizing Smutty Sex Romp was your work, and that you have perhaps higher standards than I can meet right now (knowing very little about creative writing, formatting a wiki, and whatnot). The first place I contributed was in your story, when I should've started in the sandbox.

--Pickles 06:00, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello again!
I've been wondering about those maintenance reports as well. I don't want you to go out of your way if the answer is complicated, but do they work at all? The uncategorized pages and deadend pages reports would be handy if they actually updated.
Also, do you have a category for delete requests? I'm sorry if this isn't the place to ask for them.
In any case, thanks for helping me out! --Pickles 17:39, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

P.S. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly on my last message! I'm glad I've got your seal of approval. P.P.S. Is it just me or is the site loading faster today?

Found an ad

Netconnekt's user page is an ad. I saw you deleted the dubaitours thing, so I figure this sort of account is not allowed. --Pickles 01:09, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

Reviewruk's user page is also an ad (and a fishy service if you ask me). I wonder if we're on some list of good wikis to advertise on. Interestingly enough, another company has made an account but not posted a link (yet). Lwayservice is a net dev company (akin to Netconnekt), but they didn't create any pages. --Pickles 03:41, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Woodframe's new page User talk:Woodframe is an ad. First paragraph is so deeply introspective that I almost didn't realise it was an ad. --Pickles 18:01, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Ingdarenth's user page is also an ad. Leonel Sohns 09:06, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Fivesdigital's user page is also an ad. Leonel Sohns 11:33, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

Harrygood9898's user page is also an ad. Leonel Sohns 14:14, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

Red Options

I'm not sure if it's been brought up before. I've been lurking for a little as an anon and wanted to start contributing to stories: some of which have red options nobody has fleshed out (in some cases for well over a year as far as I can tell). Do red options that haven't been written belong to the person, or are they free game to make into a page?

Fredhot16

Yo. I'm thinking of coming back to this website but not fully until I have something to write about. Just curious: what happened to the edit button on the Main Page?

Thanks for the deletes

Hi Platypus. Thanks for deleting the pages I blanked. I was about to ask if you would do that. :) (I assume you looked and saw I was the only contributor.) DirtyOldMan 20:43, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Having a problem creating an account

Thank you.

Final touches to the Tutorial

Hello. I was poking around the wiki and noticed that the Tutorial needed a bit of a clean-up, so I've tried my best. Unfortunately, the page creation page is protected and there's something I think would be a very helpful addition. The addition and the edits I made are on the Tutorial Discussion, but feel free to change anything that you want. I figured you were the admin and might be able to edit the protected page. Thanks.

Adopting other Interactives from other sites

Hi. I been looking at the number of stories, both kid-friendly and XXX-rated and I been thinking of allowing other content from other sites, both dead or infinantus-haitus and allowing both the original creators and contributors from those sites to post here. I know of a couple of good adult-heavy interactives from that bully site Writing.com that would struggle but accept the transfer. Personally, this was my second-best interactive site before the wacko admin of Writing.com committed a free-user genocide and banned everyone else from entering the site, to mine crypto, I guess?
