She didn't seem to expect you to come back since you now have permission to explore the vast Kanto region unaided.
You consider that there are certainly more interesting options than coming back home but you sit down and rest for a minute anyway, this somehow heals your pokemon.
Your mother is in the kitchen cooking her lunch.
