You grab the steel stick. You can't recall where or when you picked up a steel stick, but on a night like this, it's nice to have a hard piece of metal in your hand.

You take the stick and senselessly beat the door with it until the door is no more. You exit the room and enter the hallway to find that all other paths are blocked by walls of utter darkness except for one... to your sister's bedroom. There is also a small hall pantry.
