You decide heading north is your best option. As you swim you see the northernmost Channel Islands which make up the Channel Islands National Park. The largest, Santa Cruz, doesn't get that many tourists, and looks to have many places for you to hide. Then again you could always continue on the northern currents. Or you could head back south to where you started.
