The door to the shop swings open. You look up from your book. It's a woman, about thirty years old. She's wearing a crisp black business suit. Her clothes try to downplay her figure but there's no hiding the D-cups which strain against her blouse buttons. Her pale blonde hair is tied back neatly.

Behind her are two girls. The older one is a redhead about your age. She's wearing a summery yellow top with shorts which contrast with her stormy expression. Her red hair is choppy and pulled back in an untidy ponytail.

The second girl is younger, though you can't say just how young. She's also blonde, with waist-length hair and a scared look.

'Where's Jane?' the woman asks.

You look at her, confused. Your mother is on holiday for the week. You were just using the shop to catch up on your reading. Didn't the woman see the sign on the door?

'I'm sorry,' you say. 'She's away on holiday. She won't be back for a week.'

'But I had an appointment for today!'
