These are people in need of a saviour. You may not be that man – but you can try. You approach, arms open, to show you are not a threat.

But the message is not understood. The villagers see you and panic. They begin to scurry inside their huts – perhaps your reputation proceeds you. You cannot help but notice what a sorry bunch they are – squat, and short, and all limping strangely.

Their bodies are thin and malnourished, and as they disappear through their doors you notice some are missing limbs.
