Walk on by the blind beggar

You give no reply, and walk on by. "Strange," calls the blind man after you, "how I can't see you, and you can't see me!"

A little further up the road, an ox-cart trundles towards you. The driver lifts a hand. "You want a lift, do you?" she calls. "I see your a'walkin', and I'm headed this way!"

The driver of the cart seems honest enough. A dark-skinned farm girl, probably tough enough to pull the cart herself if she had to.
