Walk up the pathway to the front door (w inv)

Bigjeff5:

You walk down the pathway up to the front door. You see two guards dressed in suits standing in front of the door. As you approach them, one of them says, “Invitation, please?”

You calmly reach into your pocket, fish out the invitation, and hand it to the guard. He looks over the invitation and nods to you. “Welcome to the party, Mr. Velez,” he says to you while handing back the invitation. “The party is in the ballroom at the end of the hall. Dinner will be served at seven o’ clock in the dining room to your right. Enjoy the party.”

He steps aside and you enter the building. You walk down the hallway and enter the ballroom. The room is enormous with a ceiling two stories high and with glorious windows facing the sea. The walls are adorned with candelabras and framed photographs of Anthony in various exotic places meeting various exotic people. This room is clearly Anthony’s pride.

You walk around the room, looking for your targets. There is a wide variety of people in the place. Some are old, some are young, and some are children. Most are paired up with a spouse or significant other. You hear a roar of laughter coming from a circle of people in the back of the room. Looking between the heads of people, you see a fat Italian man in the center of the circle that resembles Anthony Benedetti from the photograph. You continue to search for Vladimir, but no body in the room is speaking Russian or speaking in a Russian accent. Finding Vladimir may be harder than you thought.

A man walks into the room and announces that a magic show will being in the lounge.
Strangle him with the wire

Bigjeff5:

You slowly open the closet door and creep out. You sneak up close to your target as you pull out your wire and tighten it up in your grip. You swing your arms over the target’s neck and pull the wire up around his neck. He begins thrashing his legs and trying to pull the wire off his neck, but to no avail. Finally, his movements slow down and finally cease. His arms drop to his sides and his whole body goes limp. You lift the wire off from his neck and his head plops onto the carpet.

You are breathing heavily from the kill and Harvey hears it. “What happened?” he asks.

“I killed him,” you say enthusiastically. “He’s dead.”

Harvey chuckles and says. “Excellent work, man. Well, done. How’d you do it?”

You tell him your story about how you jumped through the window, hid in the closet, and strangled the target.

“Excellent work, man. Real professional work. No mess at all, right?”

You look over your body. Not a drop of blood was on you. “No, nothing,”

“Perfect. You’re done here. Come on back down here.”

You calmly walk out the door and back down the street to the car. You climb into the passenger seat and Harvey shakes you hand and says, “Congratulations. Your first hit. Makes you feel good, huh?”

“Like I’m a god,” you reply.

“Yeah, I know the feeling.” The two of you drive back to Boston and Harvey drops you off outside your apartment building.
----
That night, you are sitting on your couch watching Deal or No Deal when your cell phone rings. “What is it?” you answer.

Harvey’s voice says, “Dude, turn on channel nine. You’re on T.V.”

You flip to channel nine. You see Marcus’s house surrounded with police tape. The reporter says, “…Thomson was killed earlier this day at his home in Quincy. This is just one in a series of violent crimes in the Quincy area that ended with a bang today.”

The broadcast changes to a recording of an interview with a Detective Jack Marino. He says, “About five people have been reported to have been killed in this town in the last couple months, all by the same man using the same weapons. Today, we found out that our victim here, Marcus Thomson, is the assassin that killed all these people. We found dozens of combat knives and stolen guns on the premises. We believe that his death is likely some form of retaliation for one of his murders.

The reporter continues, “The police have no clues to the identity of the person who killed Mr. Thompson, but Detective Marino states, ‘We remain hopeful that we will find him.’”

“You did it, man,” says Harvey. “A nice clean kill. Untraceable. Just like a professional.”

“Yeah, looks like I’m safe, huh?”

“Looks like it. Hey, I think you’re ready to take on a mission alone. What do you say?’

“Yeah, sounds good.”
Why not?

Bigjeff5: Minor consistancy fixes

“Why not?” you say.

“Excellent,” says Harvey cheerfully.

“Isn’t the job dangerous? I’m not going to get killed, am I?” you ask.

“Not if you do it right,” he replies. “Come on, I’ll introduce you to my boss.”

He swings the door open, revealing a small room. The room is significantly brighter than the hallway and the floor is dry. There are a few pieces of furniture in the room: a large card table in the middle, some collapsible chairs surrounding it, and a couple floor lamps in the corners. A man is sitting in a chair across the table. He is wearing an expensive suit with a blood red tie. A bald spot on his forehead is creeping up his skull, driving away his well groomed black hair. He has a deep scar his neck, just below his right ear. He is reading a paper as you and Harvey walk into the room. He looks up at you with his icy blue eyes, stares at you for a moment, and then says to Harvey, “Is this the recruit I asked you to bring?”

“Yeah.” Harvey replies.

“The boss looks over to you and says, “Do you have combat experience?”

“I was a soldier,” you reply. An expression flickers across the bosses face, just long enough for you to see it. “I served in Afghanistan,” you add.

The boss grunts, “That’s a good answer.”

“He’ll be a great assassin,” Harvey says.

“I hope so,” grumbles the boss. He turns to you. “Being an assassin ain’t like being a soldier, kid. It ain’t all ‘bang bang drop ‘em dead’ kind of shit. You don’t have any buddies out there. If you get caught no one’s going to bail you out. You’ve got to kill people silently, without anybody even noticing that they are dead. You’ve got to make clean kills. It’s a whole different frame of mind.” His gaze drops down to the page he is holding. “We’ll set up something of a training mission for you.” He focuses his gaze on you again. “I’ve got a client lined up here. It’s a real simple job: sneak into the target’s home, kill him, get out. No strings to get caught up on.” He looks over Harvey and hands him the page “Agent Indigo, you’ll be guiding the tenderfoot through this one.”

Harvey nods and says, “I’d love to, sir.”

“Tenderfoot,” the boss continues. “If you carry out this assignment well, we’ll sign you onto our agency. Do this mission poorly…” the boss sighs and rubs the scar on his neck. “This is a high risk, high reward business. Mess up and your life will be on the line.”

The boss rises from his seat and says, “We’ve been here long enough. It’s dangerous for us all to be in one place for too long” He firmly shakes your hand and says, “It’s a pleasure meeting you.”

“You too,” you reply and drift off, searching for a name to call your new employer.

Seeing your difficulties, he responds “Call me Fisher.”

“Oh, and my name is…”

“No, I don’t want to hear it. It’s best if we keep anonymous. To protect each other. Fisher’s not my real name. It’s just a codename.” He starts to shoo you and Harvey out the door. "Matthew 4:19," he adds with a slight smile. “Now, please go. We’ve been here too long.”

Harvey and you leave the room and Harvey locks the door behind him and returns the key to the lightbulb he found it from. Looking at the paper, he says, “I’ll pick you up at about nine in the morning, okay?”

“Yeah, that sounds fine,” you respond.

The two of you walk down the narrow corridor. “I’ll pick up some equipment for you,” Harvey continues. “Some guns, knives, a lock picking set. You know, typical stuff. I’ll give them to you when we meet up tomorrow. Sounds good?”

“Yeah, that’s fine,” you respond.

“And I shouldn’t need to tell you this, but don’t tell anyone what you
are doing or where you are going. Just make some shit up.

“Yeah,” you reply.

You and Harvey return to the car and head home.
Hey, why the hell not? I don’t have anything better to do today.

Bigjeff5:

“Hey, why the hell not?” you say. “I don’t have anything better to do today.”

Harvey jumps up from the couch. “Great,” he says. He trots over to the door saying, “I’ve got my car parked outside this building. Come on.”

You get up from the couch and follow him to his car.
----
The car rolls along a narrow, dirty road in Boston. To the right of the road is a wall of dilapidated buildings. Some of them appear to still be in use by squatters looking for free housing, others by criminal syndicates, but most are completely empty and falling dangerously into disrepair. Their dirty brick walls are crumbling and large holes are torn in the roofs. You wonder why Harvey is bringing you to this run down and dangerous part of town. What business could he possibly have here?

Harvey pulls into a shabby-looking warehouse at the end of the street. The two of you exit the vehicle and Harvey leads you out of the building towards the side of the warehouse. You follow him, looking all around you nervously. It is deadly quiet, with the only sound being the familiar white noise of the bay. You feel uneasy about the place. Harvey approaches a bunch of drums crowded around the side of the warehouse. He rolls one away and pulls up a flattened cardboard box lying on the ground, revealing a hatch. He looks over his shoulder before opening it. Down the hatch, you see a row of dark stairs leading into a dimly lit corridor. “You first,” Harvey says to you, motioning to stairs. Slowly, you make your way down the stairs and into the wet concrete corridor. Harvey follows you, closing the hatch behind him. “Go on,” he says to you. “It’s the door at the very end of the corridor.”

You walk down the stretch of the corridor with Harvey following. Water splashes underneath your feet. You can hear the echoes of mice resonating down the corridor. There are plenty of dark shadows along this stretch of concrete. You feel even more uneasy in this place than outside. But Harvey is here, and if he is okay in this place, it must be safe. After trudging down the corridor for what felt like a half hour, you are greeted by a large metal door with peeling green paint. Harvey reaches up and twists off a burnt out light bulb above the door. He shakes the bulb and a key falls out into his hand. He turns to you and says, “Listen, bud. I’m not really a flight attendant.”

“What?” you exclaim. “What the hell do you do, then?”

“I’m a contract assassin,” he says.

“A hitman?”

“It’s a good job, man. I get to travel a lot. There are always people who need my service. And the pay is great.” He pauses for a moment. “Well, what do you say? You interested?”

*[[Why not?]]
*[[No way! I’m looking for a job that will pay the bills, not get me killed.]]
