Rolla has left the concert hall, and is mourning the death of his son. You travelled to Italy for nothing! You wander around, and are inspired by the scenery. You write some beautiful poetic music, and perform in villages as you go, using what little Italian you know.

However, one day when you are walking by the side of a lake, a wind strikes up and you are pushed into the water. Your satchel, containing your masterpieces is soaked. Your life's work is ruined, and you have no friends or family to speak of. You don't even bother to put up a fight as the you are dragged into the water, and nobody ever finds your corpse.

Rolla applauds, but is unimpressed. He does however find talent in your group, and takes your best friend to Italy, trains him, and puts him out into the concert world. You remain in your home village, and at the age of twenty, your teacher dies. Your parents are in ill health, and your friends have all left for Paris, London, Rome. You begin to think about what to do in the future.

Three months later, both your parents are dead, and you are at a crossroads in your life. You have written much music since your encounter with Rolla, so what are you going to do?

You are amongst other local gems, and you are informed that the great violinist Rolla will be present. He made Paganini what he was! If you can impress him, you will do very well indeed.
