Ooft! 6/10. To be honest, I expected that. I intentionally chose to make the story linear so I wouldn't have had to make a large amount of pages. Chapter 1 was basically just character development, so you would get an understanding of what a grave situation you were in. Chapter 2 will soon see more choices, and probably turn into some action sequence at the end. I'm only going to make three or four endings. If you would like, I can happily tell you what happens in the end.

Hahaha I understand your reasoning, well, I'll just tell you this. Chapter 2 will be the most interesting part of the two, since it will most likely include the endings, so I would then have to flesh out the other three characters.

On a separate note, I hope that the review will not turn off people who are thinking about reading the story, then again, this isn't the film industry, more likely than not they will play through the story, then read the review. Perhaps realise that the story was extremely linear, play it again just to be sure, then agreeing with your points and moving on. XD.

Hey JR! Thanks for leaving me the message. I noticed the same link mistake, which is a mistake mind you (the slang for guys in Australia is Bloke). At first I was deterred to add the (m) or (f) whenever the choices were the same, and just change the story to any gender, but then I remembered the reason that I chose to give people the choice of their gender. "Captain," protests Jorge, "he's dying. We should take care of him immediately."

You get out of the small office and make your way to the jail's exit as quickly as possible. Your progress slows almost to a crawl when Edward passes out from loss of blood. Just as you are about to reach the exit, four armed guards arrive from outside, blocking your path. Their uniforms are slightly more elaborate and their muskets look brand-new... They look like some sort of elite unit.

"I'll kill the governor if you try anyth--" you begin. Before you finish your sentence, one of the guards shoots you in the right shoulder. Your arm goes numb and you drop the rapier. Your men cannot fire back, as you did not give them the time to reload their pistols before you left the office. With perfect discipline, the other three guards aim their muskets at your men and shoot in unison. Before you know it, you are the last pirate standing. Edward the Red succombs to his wound just a moment later.

You are hanged on the public place the next morning.

The wounded Edward lets out a moan of pain, and you notice that the pool of blood under his leg is expanding at an alarming rate.

He is taken thrashing and screaming to the infirmary.

After an instant of hesitation, your men draw their own pistols and aim them at the governor and his bodyguards. Outnumbered, the two bodyguards slowly lay down their weapons.

"Thank you for your cooperation," you say with cheerful smile. "We've been sent to get Captain Edward the Red out of this hellhole. Bring him here and no one gets hurt." Then, almost as an afterthought: "Bring also Miguel, please."

"Do it," Lord Colton tells his bodyguards, his voice calm and collected despite the guns pointed at his face.

The two bodyguards throw you a hateful glare, then leave the room. Just a moment later, they come back with two prisoners. One of them is Miguel. The other is a strapping, red-haired youth with a goatee, whose expression is a mixture of boredom and vague amusement.

"I take it my father sent you?" the young man asks.

"That's right, Eddie," you answer, "we're getting you out of here."

"You are not getting ''anyone'' out of here," Lord Colton warns you, his voice chilling. "You really think you can get away with this?"

You realize there is a gaggle of guards blocking your exit. They are pointing their muskets at you.

"I won't let Edward the Red escape," spits Lord Colton. He turns to a guard: "Shoot our prisoner in the knee."

The guard dutifully fires his musket at Edward's knee. The young man collapses with a startled yelp, a lot of blood escaping from his wound... You see he needs immediate medical attention and will be unable to run for a while. This makes escape considerably more complicated.

"Get reinforcements!" the middle-aged guard shouts at him. "They're freeing the Pirate King's son!"

The other guard blinks in surprise, then runs back the way he came. A moment later, more guards burst into the corridor, their muskets raised. "Drop your weapons!" one of them commands. "You're surrounded!"

Then, dressed as Royal Navy officers, you and your four men walk Miguel to Drakesport's jail, a squat grey building that sits right next to the sea. Two guards are standing at the door.

"Halt! Who goes there?" shouts a big, red-haired guard.

"We're bringin' this prisoner," you grunt, trying to imitate a dour British soldier. "He's called Miguel, surely ye've heard of him."

"Ah, yes. Of course we have." He squints at you strangely. "Wait here please." He goes back inside the building.

A minute later, a dozen armed guards burst out of the jail: "Hands up! Drop your weapons!"

You pay the tailor 45 gold crowns (quite a hefty sum even by pirate standards) and leave his workshop with your new uniforms. You go back to ''Midnight'', get Miguel and tie his hands behind his back. Then, dressed as Royal Navy officers, you and your four men walk Miguel to Drakesport's jail, a squat grey building that sits right next to the sea. Two guards are standing at the door.

"Halt! Who goes there?" shouts a big, red-haired guard.

"We're bringin' this prisoner," you grunt, trying to imitate a dour British soldier. "He's called Miguel, surely ye've heard of him."

"Ah, yes. Of course we have." He squints at you strangely. "Wait here please." He goes back inside the building.

A minute later, a dozen armed guards burst out of the jail: "Hands up! Drop your weapons!"

"But we're officers of the Navy!" you protest.

"No you're not," replies the red-haired guard. "These uniforms are fake. The badges are all wrong."

The guard frowns. "Is it the Pirate King who sends you?" he asks as he grudgingly turns one of his keys into the lock. Captain Edward the Red watches the whole scene with a kind of lazy detachment, as if only semi-interested in his own liberation. As soon as the red-haired young man drags his feet out of his cell, another guard on patrol turns a corner.

"Get reinforcements!" the middle-aged guard shouts at him. "They're freeing the Pirate King's son!"

A moment later, guards burst into the corridor, their muskets raised. "Drop your weapons!" one of them commands. "You're surrounded!"

You leap at the guard and slit his throat with your rapier. He collapses in a pool of blood. You grab his keychain and test the keys one by one in the cell door.

"Ah, my father sends you?" asks Edward the Red calmly, his voice a lazy drawl.

"Yes, we're getting you out of here. Which key is it?"

"How should I know?" says Edward with an indifferent shrug. "Never noticed."

Another guard on patrol turns a corner. He immediately notices his colleague's corpse, then you and your men. With a gasp, he disappears from view and screams : "Intruders! Somebody help!"

"Better hurry up," mutters Edward.

"Thank you, I'm ''trying''," you say, exasperated, as you try yet another key.

Too late! Just as you manage to find the right key to open the cell door, several guards arrive from both sides of the corridor, their muskets pointed at you. When they see their dead colleague, they don't even bother arresting you... They open fire in unison, instantly killing all six of you before you can even draw a weapon.

He leads you downstairs, to the jail's basement. You look distractedly at the convicts, who glare back at you from behind their bars.

"This one," whispers one of your men, grabbing your sleeve and pointing at a prisoner. "It's Edward the Red. I met him once, a few years back."

Indeed, the man looks different from the others, not quite as thuggish or shifty-eyed. He is young and red-haired, with a goatee, and he seems to keep an attitude of insolent dignity despite his condition. He is not too dirty or unkempt... He has obviously been here for a rather short time, maybe a week at most. You are sure that this is your man.

The guard stops and turns to you, suspicious : "It's this way. What are you looking at?"
