Mr Seth:

You grin, picking up one of the two things you own - your staff. It's longer than you are tall, twisted around at the end, and etched with runes of power. With it, you channel the pure, raw force of magic - not that you really ''need'' the staff. It enhances your power, makes it readily available, but if you really needed to you could force out a few spells without exhausting yourself. You grab your satchel and toss it over your shoulder, springing out into the lobby.

Grath has sprawled out on a bench and left his axe leaning up against the wall. The pale, dark-haired warrior gives you an amused smirk, flicking one of his absurdly long warrior's braids out of his face. "Took you long enough."

"Oh, bugger off." You wince. If it were later in the day, you would have thought of a stinging retort, but in your pre-breakfast state, that's the best you can manage. He just shakes his head.

"Right. Are we going to be eating this morning, or will I have to catch my food on the run?"

"Are they still serving?" You wander towards the common room - and yes, there's a large spread of fruit, breads, and the like being picked over by the rest of the travellers who spent the night at the inn. You groan, realizing that the last slice of fresh melon was just grabbed by an elderly elf. After grabbing a few things, you take a seat by Grath and start to nibble.

"Alright, so why are we out here, again?" Ahh, your mission. Enough to bring a smile across your face again.

"I told you already, we're..."

There's something reassuring about pulling on your cloak - actually, it's a duster, a long leather jacket, but Grath kept calling it a cloak and the name stuck. Maybe it's because it gives you that little extra bit of protection. Maybe it's because it's the only piece of clothing you own that's lasted you more than six months. Or maybe it's because you have a dozen knives concealed in it for emergencies. Whatever the case, you pull it on, and then your boots. Finally, a small necklace bearing the symbol of the local thieves' guild is pulled over your head. The fact that you wear it openly marks you as a treasure-hunter - one part archaeologist, one part mercenary, and one part grave robber.

You open the door to see your burly friend sprawled out on a bench, his axe propped against the wall, almost obscured behind his outrageous mane of long black warrior's braids. "Took you long enough."

"We got in at three bells, Grath."

"And yet I was up an hour ago."

"Not everyone can have the blessing of an outlander upbringing."

"Darn straight." He laughs, a booming noise that sounds almost feral. "Up before the sun to stalk elk! Back by noon with the prey to skin them and cook for the women! Ahh, that was the life." He looks absolutely joyful for a moment, and then a shadow of grief passes over his face before he shakes off the memory. You learned a long time ago not to ask why he doesn't talk much about his past - it's a rather touchy subject for him.

"Right - well, breakfast, then?" You break in.

"Excellent idea." The awkward moment passes, and you stride into the inn's common room to help yourself to the buffet, alongside just about every other traveller in the place. Grath leans in after grabbing a whole melon and sitting down across from you. "So what's the plan for today?"

"Well, if nothing else comes up, there's a bounty for clearing the kobolds out of Wren's Keep." The lizardlike creatures set up residence in the old castle's ruins a few years ago, and have been annoying the nine hells out of the nearby populace since.

"Eh. It's an idea. What about your guild? Isn't there a contact around here you can get in touch with?"

You always feel a little more... together... when that hat goes onto your head. The broad-brimmed red thing shades your eyes, and little more - it's not actually magical itself - but it's warm, comfortable, and durable. A crimson jacket comes out of the trunk next, thrown on over the travelling clothes that you slept in, followed by your boots and knapsack, which contains your spellbook. In mere moments you're ready to face the day! Or, rather, you're technically ready. You still don't want to head out and face Grath's jolly beaming just yet. But you buck up and open the door anyway...

"Took you long enough." The burly, pale outlander is stretched out on a bench in the hallway, his long dark warrior-braids dangling off the edge of the propped-up plank of wood. His trusty axe leans against the wall beside him.

"We practitioners of the ''ars arcana'' take a little more time in the morning, that's all."

"You practitioners of the flickery lights and things that go boom need to learn to sleep a little deeper and rise a little earlier." He rolls his eyes. "Come on, breakfast is already being served."

The inn's common room is bustling, a simple "serve yourself" buffet-style affair long since set up. There's plenty of fruit and bread left, and you satisfy yourself with a huge chunk of melon - just now in season! - and a bit of white cheese before sitting down to eat.

Your head is pounding almost as much as the banging on your door.

''"Come on, lazybones! Tha day's wastin'!"'' You roll over and try to block out the sound of your travelling companion, Grath, but it won't work. The burly outlander is definitely a morning person, which grates on your nerves to no end. Especially when you were up until three bells last night, after being waylaid by a group of gnolls... you shudder. Those things have never struck you as natural, no matter what the biomancers may say. Another thump at the door. ''"I'm still waiting!"''

You growl and toss the empty washbasin from your nightstand to the door. "I'mgeddinup!" you mumble, staggering to your feet and shaking out the cobwebs. Not bothering with the discarded basin, you just dump a large splash of water out onto your face. It doesn't do too much, but it helps a little bit. You glance around the room of the inn where you spent the night. It's mostly barren, just a bed, a window, a nightstand, and the trunk where you threw your things. But you're used to spartan surroundings - such is the life of the adventurer! You take a deep breath, mentally preparing yourself, and stride across the room. You reach into the trunk and...

People have a tendency to create branches where the character dies. To prevent the story from being just a tree with all dead ends:
*for each page where you kill the character, you must create at least 2 pages (with content) where he can go on.
*whenever you fill out the last option's page, add another one so the story can go another way.
*please stick to the theme and setting of the story. Although creativity is encouraged, radical plot changes and inconsistencies will ruin the flow.
