There's nothing redundant about you doing an XML dump for Rampage. Again, it might come in handy.

Just going to note that I have grabbed the XML, and confirmed that they DO load into a fresh wiki. There are some things that need cleanup, (some of the category: pages etc) but otherwise, it works rather cleanly. I DID have to make some changes to the settings. Specifically ini_set('memory_limit', '2048M'); and set_time_limit(6000); were required to let the largest pages load. --[[User:deefdragon|deefdragon]] 23:57, 19 July 2020 (UTC)

I am prety sure that that particular page cant be exported as it is a special page, but I am not sure. Any link to that page takes you to a page that asks to create it, so its really not worth too much fuss.

I am currently running it on a docker container mediawiki instance locally.

The biggest headaches were
* you cant import in parallel, and with each one taking something arround a minute a MB, it took me all night.
* the fact that some of those files were so large I had to increase the resources (and processing time allotments) that MW had available to it. (finding out after waiting for it to load for so long sucked)

Hey, how is it going? Yeah, it's been years and if not for the quarantine boredom, I don't think I'd even be here right now! Thank you for reading the story and I truly appreciate the compliment (though, I should really give credit to the many users who created the content in the Pit that inspired me to connect them all!) Fun Fact: the original plan was to link the abandoned stories per content rating from family to the 18+ stuff.

Unfortunately, there won't be a comeback for me on this site, but maybe we'll cross paths somewhere else, along the tides of the internet. That said, you are welcome to continue the Abandoned Stories legacy (as is everyone else active and reading this right now) or even build a better world for it if you want. It's really anyone's limitless adventure, and it shouldn't stop in just one story.

==Big Project: Revamping the Wiki==

I think that we need to make a team effort to revamp the wiki and make it more organized.

As part of that, I suggest that the main page could use some cleaning up and reorganization; it is super long and filled with material that is outdated. For instance, the lists of popular stories has several stories that have barely been updated in ages or have been practically abandoned and the quick reference for page length and story status is also somewhat outdated. Cleaning the front page of stories that have been abandoned should be done. Also, I am neither seeing a link to a page with the wiki rules are listed clearly, or a subsection where the rules are listed. That might be something that we should add to the main page.

Here are some of the things that I have done to work towards the goal of cleaning up and improving the Wiki:

*I have started working on a [[Main Page (2019)|modified version of the Main Page]] to act as a proposal for cleaning up and organizing things here. The idea is to clean things up by getting rid of the tables and stuff (the top story lists can be folded into separate pages dealing with each Story Rating), as its the tables and extra formatting that are making the Main Page a bit too long and have a bit of a <nowiki>clusterf*ck</nowiki> in its layout. Feel free to edit it to make it look better, as I am not that good with advanced formatting. Also feel free to start up a discussion on that page to provide more focused feedback.

*I have also started to make a series of categories and sub-categories to make navigation through the pages a bit easier. For instance, I have established a [[:Category:Reference Database| Reference Database]] category and [[:Category:Story Ratings| Story Ratings]] subcategory to better organize story categories and sub-categories. For instance, I made a category for [[:Category:PG-13 Stories| PG-13 Stories]] as a sub-category to Story Ratings and will include all stories that are PG-13 in nature. Before, all stories of a specific rating would be categorized under System Pages... but not anymore! I am currently working on updating the categories of the various story grouping pages.

*I also improved the organization of this talk page somewhat and plan on archiving any long discussions that I run across, especially if they haven't...

*I Will update links and categories as I come across them if needed.

Any thoughts or volunteers to help out? I'd like to get some feedback from anyone else who is active here. Will also update and keep you guys posted here

I most definitely agree with Durzan, but not just that but also getting this website more out there! I feel as if this website is pretty much dead, with only a few editors creating their story; while a majority of them start off creating their story but then never add any articles later on and just abandon it. Besides user activity, is there any data that someone can share that shows traffic of people actually visiting and reading all these stories on here? I've been persistently adding to my story for over 4 years now but can't help to think that no one ever reads it.

Added the new {{Adopted}} tag to the main page. The idea is that if someone wishes to continue or maintain a story that has been abandoned for a while, they can attach that tag to the story and basically take up the mantle of the main author. Of course, if the original author returns and starts working on it again, then the adopted author should respect the original author's wishes. The idea here is to prevent abandoned private stories (or public stories that see little activity), get a bit more love.

Yeah, is there a way to bump this site in popularity? I guess we could use social media, but let's face it, people in today's world don't care that much about writing/reading in their free time. They'd rather turn to YouTube or Twitch. I can't really think of many ways to get this site out there.

One of the main pieces of ettiquite for this site is to provide at least one (preferably 2+) options with every page you make so that someone else can easily add on to the story, but yes, having several red links per page does get irritating real fast. You reach the base in good time, then wrap your arms around it and start to pull yourself up the long shaft. Several minutes of work later, you reach the halfway point. It is taller than you thought. The sun is sinking into the western horizon as you reach the top of the pole. There is enough light for you to see off in the south a band of yellow. ''The desert.''

You now know where to go, and from up here, you can see the entire plateau. Unfortunately, your body strength fails you, and you come sliding down, breathless and semiconscious, as your body crashes to the ground. The pain is great, but you do not die.

Not too surprising since the only sign of a person living here belonged to the guy you killed yesterday. But where? A beach? No, the sand wasn't the white sand found at a beach. It was more like the sand found in the desert. So you're born of the sands.

You open your eyes as you awaken to soil of the plateau. You have been trapped here for days without any memory of getting here. You simply awoke with the sun staring into your soul and wearing close to nothing. Some simple boxers werr the only thing keeping you from being exposed entirely.

You shake your head. Enough thinking of how you got here. You only have so long to find food for the day, as well as come up with a better place to shelter. Based on your examination of the grass, it was raining last night, and judging from the smell of water in the atmosphere, not too long before you woke up. You need someplace better to stay.

You drink from the nearby stream, then grab a sword you found that is covered in rust. Standing up, you notice that there is a cut on your chest that wasn't there before. You remember that something had attacked you. On the bright side, now that you could see it better, the thing was a person, and had some clothing for you to wear. It was small, torn, and a bit uncomfortable, but it was what you had.

After a few rings, you hear a familiar woman's voice say, "Hello?"

"Oh, hey, Angela," you say, without missing a beat. Angela is Aaron's girlfriend. You think she has been cheating on him, but he wouldn't listen and you don't want to be bringing it up. "Is Aaron there?"

"How come you always wanna talk to him and not me?" she asks playfully.

"Well, I know Aaron sucks at poker, but he doesn't wanna chicken out of a game," you reply back just as playfully. She giggles, then you hear a bit of God-knows-what until you hear a male voice.

"What was that about poker?" he challenges.

"Well," you say in a cocky tone. "I'm going on a cruise with the money you lost last week."

But all that has changed. You know what's about to happen: you're going to Brazil to work on some editorials on travel. '''Problem 1''' Too many unused options. Dead ends are serious let-downs. Nothing bothers me as much as following a story arc I like, just to have it die in red links.

'''Solution 1''' Limit the length of each arc. I suggest giving each species/sex two options per page, and making each 'trail' only go through three links before it ends. This would, for example, give the male fox 8 different sexy endings. I think it's a satisfactory amount, and still doable.

'''Problem 2''' Rambling. Some arcs have useless pages with unimportant choices. When chasing a potential lover, the reader doesn't want a 'give up the chase' option. Pages that don't move the reader closer to a bedroom scene aren't useful.

'''Solution 2''' Cut out and leave out useless pages. If it doesn't involve the choice of primary location, love interest, and sex position, then it probably doesn't add much.

'''Problem 3''' Un-sexy endings. I haven't found any yet. But let's not get started with them. People read this because they want to read a story about a handsome wolf and a lithe cheetah having bodacious sex on the beach. Not because they want to die on page two when their character fails to jump between balconies.

'''Solution 3''' If it doesn't end in sex, don't write it in. Sex is the goal.

I've already pruned back some of the red links that nobody has touched in the (almost) year since they were added. I'm all for adding new species to the list, but if it's something that interests you (and it should be, since you're adding it!) please try and stick around to flesh it out sufficiently to at least give future editors an idea of what you have in mind if nothing else.

I've also gone ahead and changed the equine option back to how it was previously. Someone had edited it to point at a list of things where two of the three options were red links, which seemed rather pointless and unnecessary.

Finally, I've removed the Furi Poi option entirely. ''What do they want now?'' you ask yourself as you flip through the bills and shopping catalogs. "Oh?" You discover a swimsuit magazine. You'll put that in a spot different from the rest. The bills you'll pay last minute; the letters from distant relatives you'll burn with the shopping catalogs. You'll keep the coupons, but the only thing you'll actually ''read'' is that one letter.

You open it, expecting something dramatic, important, and, most importantly, bad. Instead, it's a list of meeting times for your satanic cult. Cursing, you set it down and look at the calendar. It's a Sunday. You pray it's 10:30 — a good enough time to be late to the church and not go — but are instead insulted with a time of 9:17 A.M. I'm writing a story under the mature content rating and I would like some clarification as to what this community sees as 'adult' or 'mature'. I assume the difference is in the detail and the context of the action, but just how much detail is too much? While it's not an issue for me yet, there will be descriptive swordplay and implied sexual encounters in my story and I want to make sure I categorize the story correctly.

So yeah, what level of detail in sex, violence and themes is considered too much for a mature rating?

I would also like to mention that I tried to post this on the main pages talk page, but it appears is impossible to do so without butchering some guys links. When submitting it just brings me to a page saying you can only post 1 link every 20 minutes, even though I am not adding any new ones.

I'd say you should use your own judgment. The line between mature and adult is pretty fine. It's not like when someone was posting about Harry Potter kicking his uncle in the balls. That was a blatant deviation from family friendly. If you feel that you've crossed fro mature to adult, you can always move your story from the mature page to the adult page. If I read something of yours and I think it's crossed the line, I'll tell you. Then it will up to you to edit or move, as you see fit.

==Big Project: Revamping the Wiki==

I think that we need to make a team effort to revamp the wiki and make it more organized.

As part of that, I suggest that the main page could use some cleaning up and reorganization; it is super long and filled with material that is outdated. For instance, the lists of popular stories has several stories that have barely been updated in ages or have been practically abandoned and the quick reference for page length and story status is also somewhat outdated. Cleaning the front page of stories that have been abandoned should be done. Also, I am neither seeing a link to a page with the wiki rules are listed clearly, or a subsection where the rules are listed. That might be something that we should add to the main page.

Here are some of the things that I have done to work towards the goal of cleaning up and improving the Wiki:

*I have started working on a [[Main Page (2019)|modified version of the Main Page]] to act as a proposal for cleaning up and organizing things here. The idea is to clean things up by getting rid of the tables and stuff (the top story lists can be folded into separate pages dealing with each Story Rating), as its the tables and extra formatting that are making the Main Page a bit too long and have a bit of a <nowiki>clusterf*ck</nowiki> in its layout. Feel free to edit it to make it look better, as I am not that good with advanced formatting. Also feel free to start up a discussion on that page to provide more focused feedback.

*I have also started to make a series of categories and sub-categories to make navigation through the pages a bit easier. For instance, I have established a [[:Category:Reference Database| Reference Database]] category and [[:Category:Story Ratings| Story Ratings]] subcategory to better organize story categories and sub-categories. For instance, I made a category for [[:Category:PG-13 Stories| PG-13 Stories]] as a sub-category to Story Ratings and will include all stories that are PG-13 in nature. Before, all stories of a specific rating would be categorized under System Pages... but not anymore! I am currently working on updating the categories of the various story grouping pages.

*I also improved the organization of this talk page somewhat and plan on archiving any long discussions that I run across, especially if they haven't...

I feel as if this website is pretty much dead, with only a few editors creating their story; while a majority of them start off creating their story but then never add any articles later on and just abandon it. Besides user activity, is there any data that someone can share that shows traffic of people actually visiting and reading all these stories on here? I've been persistently adding to my story for over 4 years now but can't help to think that no one ever reads it.

Okay, so I recently started up the [[Tales of Illnora]] mega-story. I am working on one specific branch of that story, and I need some people willing to work with me, bounce ideas, improve the writing of existing pages, and so forth.

At this point however, my ideas and goals for the mega-story are somewhat hazy. So, does anybody want to do anything about the "do not edit" sign for the Choose Your Own Adventures on this page? Can we remove the signs?

What about the ones that haven't been edited or updated in a while? I know I did some minor editing on a "do not edit" or "private" story I liked a while back on a story that was practically abandoned a couple years ago. Fixing spelling, link issues, category issues... ya know, that kind of thing. ==Big Project: Revamping the Wiki==

I think that we need to make a team effort to revamp the wiki and make it more organized.

As part of that, I suggest that the main page could use some cleaning up and reorganization; it is super long and filled with material that is outdated. For instance, the lists of popular stories has several stories that have barely been updated in ages or have been practically abandoned and the quick reference for page length and story status is also somewhat outdated. Cleaning the front page of stories that have been abandoned should be done. Also, I am neither seeing a link to a page with the wiki rules are listed clearly, or a subsection where the rules are listed. That might be something that we should add to the main page.

Here are some of the things that I have done to work towards the goal of cleaning up and improving the Wiki:

*I have started working on a [[Main Page (2019)|modified version of the Main Page]] to act as a proposal for cleaning up and organizing things here. The idea is to clean things up by getting rid of the tables and stuff (the top story lists can be folded into separate pages dealing with each Story Rating), as its the tables and extra formatting that are making the Main Page a bit too long and have a bit of a <nowiki>clusterf*ck</nowiki> in its layout. Feel free to edit it to make it look better, as I am not that good with advanced formatting. Also feel free to start up a discussion on that page to provide more focused feedback.

*I have also started to make a series of categories and sub-categories to make navigation through the pages a bit easier. For instance, I have established a [[:Category:Reference Database| Reference Database]] category and [[:Category:Story Ratings| Story Ratings]] subcategory to better organize story categories and sub-categories. For instance, I made a category for [[:Category:PG-13 Stories| PG-13 Stories]] as a sub-category to Story Ratings and will include all stories that are PG-13 in nature. Before, all stories of a specific rating would be categorized under System Pages... but not anymore! I am currently working on updating the categories of the various story grouping pages.

*I also improved the organization of this talk page somewhat and plan on archiving any long discussions that I run across, especially if they haven't...

*I Will update links and categories as I come across them if needed.

Any thoughts or volunteers to help out? I'd like to get some feedback from anyone else who is active here. Will also update and keep you guys posted here

I most definitely agree with Durzan, but not just that but also getting this website more out there! I feel as if this website is pretty much dead, with only a few editors creating their story; while a majority of them start off creating their story but then never add any articles later on and just abandon it. Besides user activity, is there any data that someone can share that shows traffic of people actually visiting and reading all these stories on here? I've been persistently adding to my story for over 4 years now but can't help to think that no one ever reads it.

Okay, so I recently started up the [[Tales of Illnora]] mega-story. I am working on one specific branch of that story, and I need some people willing to work with me, bounce ideas, improve the writing of existing pages, and so forth.

FYI: Its intended to be an Adult story with multiple branching off points with the common theme of all focusing on story and character development. At this point however, my ideas and goals for the mega-story are somewhat hazy. Having one or more people who are actively contributing to the overarching narrative and premise would be very helpful.
