It's apparent that the New England Patriots are gravely holding on to an unblemished 7-0 record, but they are treading on thin ice as they've shown a plethora of critical flaws and weaknesses in both their offensive and defensive games.

I'll give credit where credit is due. Tom Brady is playing at an elite level right now. Statistically, he is the best quarterback in football and has surprisingly, shown the ability to extend plays due to his mobility and agility in the pocket. But New England's biggest offensive achilles heel will be their receiving corps.

When the New York Jets came into town, many ignorant Patriots fans believed that it would be a walk in the park for Brady and his bunch, easily eviscerating the division rivals. But this was arguably, the toughest challenge that New England has had to face all year. Malcolm Butler's fantasy season finally suffered a rude awakening as Patriots fans were assuredly, brought back to reality. Let's be honest with ourselves here. I respect the effort, but Butler is undoubtably mediocre at best and is certainly, no Darrelle Revis.

Though the Patriots run defense looked impenetrable, giving up a combined 161 yards to both Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall on only a combined 10 receptions, is concerning to say the least. Especially considering the fact that the Jets have been pulling the trigger on the self proclaimed, "Amish Rifle" Ryan Fitzpatrick and have started the veteran quarterback for the majority of the season.

On offense, Brady was 34 of 54 for 355 yards overall. Once again, elite numbers that stuffed the stat sheet, but the overflow of negatives outweigh the positives on this figurative libra scale. Brady was an eyewitness to 11 drops by his receivers, six coming from newly activated Brandon LaFell.

Nonetheless, the Patriots victimized the Miami Dolphins the following week, holding Miami's offense to a meager, seven points. Even Dan Campbell's vibrant personality couldn't get the Dolphins swimming past New England's front lines.

The main focal point of concern for New England is that the Patriots may be plagued by inconsistencies for the remainder of the season. With fairly manageable matchups remaining on the schedule, the Patriots may become complacent and lackadaisical and could be caught off guard by teams like the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets?

Time will certainly play its course and it will be interesting to see if New England has learned anything from their 2007 debacle. So as the great Kenny Rogers would say, "You never count your money, when you're sittin' at the table. There'll be time enough for counting, when the dealin's done."

If a page is not yet complete, add it to Category:Pages Under Construction so people know the editor is still working on it and it does not need to have someone improve it.
