You have spent your entire life in a quiet little town living in squalor. You were abandoned as a baby, found on the streets by a man you refuse to call your father. A belligerent drunkard that offered no love and no support. Once you were old enough to look after yourself, you ran away, finding that it wasn't as difficult as you had imagined to survive on your own. You've managed to survive this long in the dangerous streets by relying solely on your instincts. Furthermore, you have unexplained, unnatural abilities, which you aren't quite sure how to use.

As you lay to rest on your cloak, you begin to hear whispers, they're faint at first, and then they gradually raise in volume, unintelligible, incoherent voices bouncing around your skull. And suddenly, you feel as though you're being watched. As quickly as they came, they leave. Despite this unusual occurance you can't help but close your eyes and sleep. It's been a long day.

You jolt awake as a boot savagely thumps your ribcage. You cry out, your eyes darting up to see a tall, two fancily robed men towering over you. The man to your left says, "it's him! The aura is faint, but it is there all the same." Right replies quietly, "you better be right, Brother. Frood forbid we repeat what happened last time." Then he bends to grab you with two hands, one on your throat and pins you against the wall. "Make it quick." Left withdraws his long, curved dagger. "Of course." You claw and pry at the hands that hold you, but to no avail, he tightens his grip and your peripheral vision begins to fade. You can only watch as the other man raises the blade and stab you in the heart. You squeeze your eyes shut, anticipating it.

Suddenly, the pressure on your neck disappears, you fall to the ground onto your knees grasping your neck as you gasp for air. A fog begins to seep into the alleyway.

You didn't know it possible until now, but you can feel a presence, a powerful entity. Your hairs stand on end and you feel the need to run from it. You look at the remains of the two men that tried to kill you, they've been cut into pieces, guts spilling everywhere, blood leaking to and into your malnourished legs. You look away, close your eyes and slow your breathing, panicking won't solve anything. Not here, not now.

Appearing behind them a hooded figure stands engulfed in the fog. It's making strange motions with its hands, you can't help but stare, you watch as the hands stop, and at that moment an explosion occurs directly behind you, causing the ground you kneel upon to violently shake. The being makes a pushing motion with its hand and almost instantly, you are thrown backwards. You expect an impact with the wall, but instead you land with a thump on cold, damp grass. The air you have only just regained escapes your lungs and you wheeze weakly. You stare up at the stairs, wondering if you're dreaming. Moments pass before you come to the conclusion that you are not.

You push yourself onto your feet, but you feel a wave of vertigo, you stagger over to the nearest tree and press your weight against it, waiting for the nausea and dizziness to pass. You look down and feel relief as the earth gradually begins to stop swaying.

You are more confused than you've ever felt. Where are you? What happened? You raise your head to see a building standing amongst the woodland. The exterior is lit by candles and decorated with flowers. You bumble your way towards it.

<i>What home?</i> You ponder, you have no place you can call home. There are only places to sleep, steal and hide from the authorities and gangs alike. Nevertheless, you can always just go back to lurking around your usual alleys. You don't appreciate being thrusted into an unfamiliar environment such as this. With a sigh, you turn around to leave and begin to walk down the stairs. Stepping off the final stair, you suddenly sense something coming your way. Something fast. Something dangerous. You dive to the ground just as a projectile hits the ground where you were with a metallic clang. Gasping, you roll yourself back onto your feet, senses on high alert. You strain to raise your head to find a thin, dark figure menacingly striding towards you. It doesn't seem to take its eyes off you as it reloads the crossbow mounted on its right wrist. You feel a cold sweat seeping down your spine, and you can't tell whether your body wants to freeze , fight or fly. You feel true fear for the first time in years. The silhouette stops not 10 metres away and cocks its half-concealed face. You flinch as its voice abruptly permeates the silent, eerie air.

"I am impressed. It's not often you find someone with precognitive abilities." To your surprise the voice is feminine, and contains no hint of malice. As if to ease your fears, it says, "The dart was filled with a sedative. I meant no harm, we just cannot risk you leaving us at a time like this."

''At a time like this?''

She removes the scarf from the bottom half of her face, breathing in the cold night air. "Come. There is food and a warm bed waiting inside." Her voice and body language are welcoming and gentle, under other circumstances you might relax, yet you have already inferred that she isn’t giving you a choice. Despite yourself you begin to feel your own exhaustion catch up with you, along with an agonizing appetite, nothing would make you happier than a meal and a good night’s sleep.
One serene, moonless evening you’re out alone, looking for a place to rest after a day of scavenging, when you hear the creaking of wheels, a wagon slowly pulls up behind you. “That’s the one.” A voice cuts through the eerie silence. You turn around just in time to be greeted by a metal object that nearly leaves a dent in your forehead. You are tangled in a web of darkness.

You groggily open your eyes hours later in darkness. You try to rise into a seating position but your wrists appear to be stuck to the bed. Your entire torso has been restrained by a leathery material. Silently, a silhouette opens the door to your left, shuffling into the room holding a candle and a cup. “You are awake?” He inquires. You would verbally respond, but it appears that your throat is parched, and so you stare blankly at the ceiling.

The robed figure approaches you, and with his old, pale veiny hands he puts the cup to your mouth. “Drink.” The man commands, and you comply eagerly, draining the container in seconds. As you swallow the last of it, you contemplate the fact that the liquid leaves a rather bitter taste on your tongue, and you wonder whether drinking it was wise.

You give the old man a curious glance. “I just want you to know that what you are doing, is very brave.” Suddenly, you feel a wave of both fatigue and nausea. You awaken again hours later to the sight of a vibrant blue sky and white clouds and an incandescent sun that won't relent in burning the eyes out of your skull. You squint, trying to ignore how much it stings. You’re surrounded by robed men, women and children, laying on a stone block in the middle of a field. Your back aches, and your head aches even more. The people seem to be muttering things under their breaths, strange things, with tightly closed eyes. “Hello?” You ask, beginning to fear for your safety. Nobody responds or seems to hear your inquiry, in fact, you don’t even think they can hear each other. One of them begins to mutter louder, as he steps closer and draws a knife from one of the many pockets on his robes.
“E-Excuse me.” You say slightly louder this time. You try to rise but both your arms seem to be tightly secured to something.

Gorillawarfare:

You have spent your entire life in a quiet little town living in squalor. You were abandoned as a baby, found on the streets by a man you refuse to call your father. A belligerent drunkard that offered no love and no support. Once you were old enough to look after yourself, you ran away, finding that it wasn't as difficult as you had imagined to survive on your own. You've managed to survive this long in the dangerous streets by relying solely on your instincts. Furthermore, you have some sort of innate ability to set things on fire, but you're not completely sure how it works.

One serene, moonless evening you’re out alone, looking for a place to rest after a day of scavenging, when you hear the creaking of wheels, a wagon slowly pulls up behind you. “That’s the one.” A voice cuts through the eery silence.

As you swallow the last of it, you muse that the liquid leaves a rather bitter taste on your tongue, and you wonder whether drinking it was wise.

You give the old man a curious glance. “I just want you to know that what you are doing, is very brave.” Suddenly, you feel a wave of both fatigue and nausea. You command your mouth and vocal chords to communicate, but nothing comes out. Your eyelids begin to close, and you lose consciousness.

You awaken again hours later to the sight of an vibrant blue sky and white clouds and an incandescent sun that won't relent in burning the eyes out of your skull.

The man raises his knife as if ready to plunge it into your chest, filled with a primal fear, you feel your pulse begin to race, your heart pounding in your chest. you begin to struggle, pulling against the ropes that bind you.
Nevertheless, you can always just go back to lurking around your usual alleys. You don't appreciate being thrusted into an unfamiliar environment such as this. With a sigh, you turn around to leave and begin to walk down the stairs. Stepping off the final stair, you get the strange feeling that something's wrong. A sound? A smell? You dive to the ground and roll sideways, just as an object hits the ground where you were with a metallic clang. You strain to raise your head, and you find a woman walking resolutely towards you, knife in her right hand, a small mounted crossbow on her raised left wrist. She wears a tattered, sleeved cotton shirt and brown, leather trousers. You listen to her footsteps, waiting for her to approach. As soon as she is close enough, you roll onto your belly, lift yourself to your feet in one swift motion spin around and put all your weight into a punch to the jaw. An attack you favoured while living on the streets. She stumbles to the ground, and you hastily mount and restrain her to deter further assault. Your hands planted firmly on her forearms, one knee on her chest and the other on the ground next to her body. You put all your effort into keeping her arms restrained.

Ignoring her query, you ask quite sternly, “you would rather kill me than let me leave?" You're not ready to die. Not yet.
She sneers menacingly and says, "if I wanted you dead, you would be. The bolt was filled with a tranquilizing agent."
At that, her expression changes to that of irritation, "it <i>wasn't</i> going to kill you." Her breath fills your nose with the pungent odour of tobacco. You grimace momentarily, it reminds you of your father. You press down harder, the weight of your knee seems to hinder her ability to breathe. And she continues through ragged breaths, "knock you out for a while."
She couldn't have just said something? Called after you? You express this and she snorts, amused, "diplomacy isn't really my forte." You stare at her matter-of-fact expression, bemused. Is she stupid or just lazy? "I hope you'll remember that. Not everyone gets the chance to.” You assume she’s bluffing, but the way she looks at you makes you feel like it’s the truth. Those cold, brown eyes and tight, chapped lips.

"Now, if you could get off me, that would be nice." Her tone implies politeness but her face is taut and filled with impatience. You are not eager to see it turn to wrath. Or are you?

<i>What home?</i> You ponder, you have no place you can call home. There are only places to sleep, steal and hide from the authorities and gangs alike. Nevertheless, you can always just go back to lurking around your usual alleys. You don't appreciate being thrusted into an unfamiliar environment such as this. With a sigh, you turn around to leave and begin to walk down the stairs. You roll onto your belly, lift yourself to your feet in one swift motion spin around and put all your weight into a punch to the jaw. An attack you favoured while living on the streets. She stumbles to the ground, and you mount and restrain her to deter further assault. Your hands planted firmly on her forearms, one knee on her chest and the other on the ground next to her body. You put all your effort into keeping her arms restrained.

"Well that fucking hurts." She whines, looking off to the side away from your accusing eyes.

"Well, that's what you get for attacking me," you retort.

"You shouldn't have tried to leave." She says, turning her head to meet your eyes. “You travel all the way here, knock on the door and run away?”
Ignoring her query, you ask quite sternly, “you would rather me dead than gone?" You’ve come close to death many a time, but for such a ridiculous reason. It makes your blood boil. “Are you fucking insane?” You shout in furious anger, pressing harder now on her forearms. You’re not ready to die. Not yet.

Without concern for your anger, she sneers menacingly, sucks in air through her teeth and says "if I wanted you dead, you would be. The bolt was filled with a tranquilizing agent."

Your passionate anger begins to wither away, as you ponder this for a moment in silence, what is she talking about?

"Which means?"

Or are you?
You roll onto your belly, lift yourself to your feet in one swift motion spin around and put all your weight into a punch to the jaw. An attack you favoured while living on the streets. She stumbles to the ground, and you mount and restrain her to deter further assault. Your hands planted firmly on her forearms, one knee on her chest and the other on the ground next to her body. You put all your effort into keeping her arms restrained.

"That fucking hurts." She mutters, looking off to the side.

"Well, that's what you get for attacking me," you retort,

"Maybe you shouldn't have tried to leave."

"You would rather me dead than gone?"

She sneers menacingly, sucks in air through her teeth and says "if I wanted you dead, you would be. The bolt was filled with a tranquilizing agent."

You ponder this for a moment in silence, a what?

"Which means?"

You express this and she snorts, amused, "diplomacy isn't really my forte. I hope you'll remember that."

You stare at her matter-of-fact expression, bemused. Is she stupid or just lazy?

"Now, If you could get off me, that would be nice." Her tone implies politeness but her face is taut and filled with impatience. You are not eager to see it turn to wrath. Or are you?

Despite your attempt at chivalry, she merely shoots you a look, a look that would shake you to the core, if not for your history of being given and returning them. She tosses her weapons haphazardly and massages her wrists as she heads up the stairs. You can't help but notice how tight her trousers are, and how distractingly shapely...at the apex she turns around and blurts, "you coming or what?" And so you follow behind like an obedient dog, trying to keep your eyeballs above waist height.
She silently veers left and shifts swiftly to the end of the room to an unmanned bed. As you approach the candle on the table at its head lights up. Before you can question it, she says, "this is where you'll be sleeping.” You turn to gaze at her cold, yet mesmerizing hazel eyes. She doesn't meet your gaze, “training begins at dawn every day." She says softly. yet without the gentle tone that usually accompanies it. "Any objections?"
You look at your bed, sighing, and then you realize you have no idea who she is. You open your mouth to speak, turning your body to face hers, but the space where she once stood is filled by nothing but the air that you brought in, when you foolishly decided to walk in through that front door. Nevertheless, you can always just go back to lurking around your usual alleys and meet your friends, if you can call them that. You turn around to leave and begin to walk down the stairs. As you step off the final stair, you get a strange feeling that something's wrong. You dive to the ground, just in time, as a sharp object hits the ground next to your boot with a clang. You turn your head to find a woman walking resolutely towards you, knife in her right hand, a small mounted crossbow on her raised left wrist. You lift yourself to your feet in one swift motion and put all your weight into a punch to the jaw. An attack you mastered while living on the streets. She stumbles to the ground, and you mount and restrain her to deter further assault. Your hands planted firmly on her wrists.

You have spent your entire life in a quiet little town living alone. You were abandoned as a baby, found on the streets by a man you refuse to call 'father'. Once you were old enough to look after yourself, you ran away, you found that it was never difficult to survive on your own. For some reason, you've managed to survive this long in the dangerous streets by relying solely on your instincts. You have some sort of innate ability to stop time, but you're not completely sure how it works.

One day child services manages to find you alone and decides to send you to a foster home. They're in the middle of giving you a physical when you hear a mechanical whine as a machine above falls off its hinges.

"<b>THE WORLD!</b>"

Every color in the room suddenly becomes inverted. The machine suspended in the air by ghosts. Staring up in disbelief, you step off the stool and walk backwards until you are shoulder-to-shoulder with the doctor. A moment later you feel as though your brain has curled in on itself, like it's about to implode and so you releaw your power, and all colors become again their natural states, and the machine resumes its motion, crashing into the ground with a large bang.

He wonders after much silent debate, shock and awe how you managed to disappear and appear next to him. You tell him about your ability, and he seems convinced, even though a real man of science should be skeptical. He informs you that you have an ability called '<i>The World'</i>. It means you are able to temporarily stop time. But perhaps your ability hasn't been developed to its full potential, which is why you can only do it for 9 seconds. The doctor makes some recommendations and gets you into a home for the gifted. You arrive about midnight and the lights are off.
