The victim's name is George Kanan. He is 45 years of age. He is 5 foot 11 inches tall. Based on rigor mortis and livor mortis, he has been dead for about 9 hours. Pre-autopsy viewing of the body show multiple stab wounds in the back. Along the throat is a long, fairly deep cut. Both the stab wounds and the cut are congruent with a kitchen knife. It should be noted that there were no kitchen knives found at the scene of the crime. The butler says that Mr. Kanan has been known to grab a midnight snack from time to time, so it would not be unusual for him to be at the kitchen at the time of the murder.

George Kanan is married to Nancy Kanan. They have lived in this mansion for almost 6 years at this point. Despite this, Mr. Kanan regularly enlists a courtesan for the night. Nancy knows of this, but claims to not be bothered by this. On the night of the murder, there was in fact a courtesan visiting that night, by the name of Dolly Parker. Dolly claims that she is a regular for Mr. Kanan.

George Kanan has no known enemies. He works at a banking company as a contractor. He is generally well liked at his place of work. The butler, who's name is Patrick Longbottom, says that Mr. Kanan is a generous host, and a loving husband. Both Nancy and Dolly refrain from commenting.

You open the door to the mansion and go inside. Behind you, lights pour in through the windows, while the bright lights illuminate the main foyer. Expensive rugs adorn the floor, which is made from an expensive looking wood, as far as you can tell. You were never one for interior decoration, so you could only guess at how much all of this cost. You can see quite a number of investigators around, moving about through the house. Most of them have congregated towards the kitchen. A spare few are in the living room, and you can't see any in the bedroom or upstairs from where you are currently. The foyer seems to be in pristine condition. No markings, no gashes, not even any blood around. However, you can see some blood at the corner of the kitchen. That must be why most of the investigators are over there. In the living room, though, you can see toppled over furniture. From your first impression, it seems like a fight had taken place in that room.

Simmons follows inside behind you. He remind you that if you need any information about the suspects or the victim, you could just ask him.

You go up the stairs, but are stopped by another investigator. He tells you that the team has already searched up here. He'd be glad to share with you the evidence they found. You agree.

He shows you two pill bottles. They are sleeping aids. They were found in both the butler's room, and the guest bedroom. They had asked what kind of pills the butler used, but this was not one of the many ones he used. Dolly, to our knowledge, does not take any medicine or drugs. These medicine was sent to the Lab. THey came back with Luna Sleeping Night Oil. It can be put into any liquid, and the drinker would not know. It is a very powerful sleeping aid, and whoever takes it will be fast asleep very quickly. What were they doing in the guest and butler bedrooms? Simmons quietly takes the bottles and processes them. He writes down who found them, where they were found, what time they were found, and who bagged them.

You walk underneath the tape that separates the bedroom from the hallway. One of the investigators still in the room tell you that this room has already been looked into. She brings out a bag with a kitchen knife in it. They ask you to send this to the lab for analysis. You tell Simmons to do it. He sighs, putting down the information for who found the knife, where it was found, when it was found, and who bagged it. The investigator tells you that they found it in the closet, tucked away behind some boxes. They also remind you that this is not the butler's room, or the guest bedroom. This is rather the main bedroom.

After sending it to the lab, they quickly call you back. They tell you that they found two pieces of evidence on this knife alone. They found out that there was in fact blood on the knife. DNA comparison shows that it belonged to the victim George Kanan. Next, they found fingerprints along the blade of the knife. In comparison to the suspects and the victim's fingerprints, they found out that there were multiple sets of prints. One of them belonged to the butler, Patrick Longbottom. The next belonged to the wife, Nancy Kanan.

You thank them for the insight, and they comment on how weird it is that you thanked them. You hang up. Afterwards, the investigator tells you that there's nothing else in this room, so you can go somewhere else.

You pick up one blanket that has a star pattern on it, and you find what looks to be a fake nail. You tell Simmons to bag it up for investigation. He wraps it up with a lunch bag, and writes down who found it, where it was found, what time it was found, and who bagged it. Before you had told Simmons to bag it, you took a look at it. It had nail polish on it. It was a blackish color, if not completely black.

You continue looking around the room, but find nothing of importance.

After it was sent to the forensic units, they tell you that they found some skin cells stuck to the inside of the nail. They compared it to the DNA of Dolly, Nancy, and Patrick. The DNA under the fake nail belonged to Nancy Kanan.

Along the fence, are large bushes, pushed together tightly. Finally, there is a door leading into the kitchen.

Quite a few investigators are crowded around the body, while one or two scour the bloodstains. Other than the obvious crime happenings in here, there's the usual kitchen appliances. A refrigerator, a stove, a dishwasher, and a sink. On top of the sink is an evidence marker. You ask what was in there, and they respond with blood. Seems the murderer tried washing their hands of this crime. At the end of the room is a door to the backyard.

 The butler's name is Patrick Longbottom. He is 56 years old, and 5 foot 10 inches tall. Patrick had been working for a little over 5 years now. He tells of how much he appreciates the Kanan's hospitality and manners. He generally likes both of them, and could not imagine working for anyone else. He tells of Mr. Kanan with warm regard, and thinks of him as a generous host and a loving husband. When told of George's scandal with Dolly, he seemed surprised, as if the very thought of him having an affair was unthinkable.

Mr. Longbottom relinquished a bit of information. He says that it was fairly common for George to have a midnight snack, so being in the kitchen at the time of the crime would not have been surprising. Seeing as how Mr. Longbottom does the cooking for the Kanan's, he would often leave a snack in the fridge for Mr. Kanan. When asked about where his gloves are, he claims that he does not know, that he lost them 2 days ago. Lastly, Mr. Longbottom said that he takes meds when he goes to bed. He claims that with the meds, paired with him being a heavy sleeper, he would not have heard any loud noises in the middle of the night. Thus, he says that he did not hear any fighting while he was asleep. He says he always goes to bed by 9:00 sharp.

The courtesan's name is Dolly Parker. She is 22 years old, and 5 foot 9 inches tall. Her only line of work is a courtesan. Despite this, she claims that she and Mr. Kanan never had sexual relations. She claims that he only hired her to talk with, because he didn't feel happy talking or being with his wife, Nancy. She was being paid a large sum of money, so she did not mind. She does not deny being at the mansion at the time of the murder, but she claims that she was sleeping in the guest bedroom, as she often did when George hired her.

Dolly says she does not know of any butler they have. Whenever she was at the mansion, she says she's never seen any butler, as she would be there late at night. She cannot give an exact time, but she roughly estimates it to be around 10:00 PM.

After the night when she was hired, she would usually wake up and leave by 5:00 AM. This was the same today. She woke up, and, when passing by the kitchen, she glanced into it, and found the body of George Kanan. She claims to not have messed with the body at all, not even to make sure he was okay. She immediately called 911 and led to these events, where you are now reading this letter.

You need to have a word with the technicians. They shouldn't be introducing the fourth wall into these reports.

 The wife's name is Nancy Kanan. She is 43 years old, and she is 5 foot 8 inches. She has been George Kanan's wife for 17 years. She knows about George's infatuation with a few of the courtesans, but claims to not be bothered by it. If she doesn't hear or see it, she does not care. She says that George usually had a midnight snack. She knows this, because he would wake her up sometimes as he got out of bed.

She claims to not know whether he had a courtesan the night of the murder or not. She says that she always went to bed early, so she doesn't notice when he gets home. She also claims not to know how the furniture got knocked over. As she seemed to think about this, she suddenly started to accuse the courtesan, who's name is Dolly Parker, of murdering her husband. She doesn't give any reasons, just that 'who else could it be?'.

She has no alibi the night of the murder. She claimed to be in bed by 9:30, half an hour later than when the butler, Mr. Longbottom, went to bed. Despite this, she still keeps accusing Dolly Parker, without any evidence.

No other clothes, The pants have been slightly soaked with blood, but not much. No other holes or slices are in the clothes. Next to the head, there is a baseball cap, a Yankees logo on the front.

The inspectors say that the cut is similar to that of a kitchen knife, the blade being about 20 centimeters in length. There was not, however, any knives near the body in the kitchen when they got here. It must have been moved somewhere else. There are no other bruises or injuries other than the slash in the neck.

You go into the kitchen, and stand on the outskirts. From here, you can see the body, and the bloodstains all across the floor and walls. Quite a few investigators are crowded around the body, while one or two scour the bloodstains. Other than the obvious crime happenings in here, there's the usual kitchen appliances. A refrigerator, a stove, a dishwasher, and a sink. On top of the sink is an evidence marker. You ask what was in there, and they respond with blood. Seems the murderer tried washing their hands of this crime.

You reach down and pluck it from the branches below the surface. You take it out, and find a silken white butler glove. On the palm side of the glove is blood stains. You call Mr. Simmons over, quickly, and get him to bag the evidence. He writes down who found it, what time it was found, where it was found, and who bagged the evidence.

"See, sir? This is how you do it properly. Maybe you should learn sometime? It would make these investigations go by much faster," Simmons says.

Your name is Nicholas Walters. Most people refer to you as Detective Walt, though. You just got a call of a murder in the Carrigan Mansion. You always thought those rich folks were crazy, but not to this extent. You arrive on Peterson Avenue. You park your car outside the gates, and get out. You check your watch. It's 10:31 AM. You push open the large bronze gates, and head up the stone pathway to the mansion. All along the outside are crime scene investigators, searching for clues. You slink in between them, reaching for the door, when someone places a hand on your shoulder. You turn around to find one of your most trusted investigators, Mr. Simmons. He speaks up.

"Sir, before you go in there, I must remind you of protocol. Any evidence that you find, you must notify me. I will bag or contain the evidence for future evaluation." He takes out a pair of gloves, and hands them to you. "And please, stop forgetting to put on gloves."

You put on the gloves, then ask who the victim and suspects are.

"The victim if one George Kanan, owner of this very mansion. The only suspects we know of so far are the butler, his wife, Nancy Kanan, and his courtesan, Dolly Parker. After thorough examination of their belongings and clothes, we have brought them in custody. We can interrogate them later, sir."

Expensive rugs adorn the floor, which is made from an expensive looking wood, as far as you can tell. You were never one for interior decoration, so you could only guess at how much all of this cost. You can see quite a number of investigators around, moving about through the house. Most of them have congregated towards the kitchen. A spare few are in the living room, and you can't see any in the bedroom or upstairs from where you are currently. The foyer seems to be in pristine condition. No markings, no gashes, not even any blood around. However, you can see some blood at the corner of the kitchen. That must be why most of the investigators are over there. In the living room, though, you can see toppled over furniture. From your first impression, it seems like a fight had taken place in that room.
