Your name is Gareth, you are a blacksmith living in the town of Moulton.
The year is 1185.

Up to now, you have lived a fairly ordinary (boring) life - composed of rather mundane events. If one were
to ask you the best thing about your life, you'd probably respond with your wife's name, Minda. She has
made your uninteresting life much more enjoyable.

However, one year ago she contracted an unknown disease after buying some exotic food from a travelling
merchant. You searched high and low for a cure but it was never found, and she died one
early spring morning.

Since then, you have spent most of your days keeping to yourself and drinking
your sorrows away. Surely you would be happy if an unexpected event were to
make an abrupt change in this dreary and tragic life.

Suddenly and without warning, a figure emerges upside down from the ceiling. He looks vaguely familiar, wearing a dark cloak that keeps his face hidden in shadow. He hangs down so that his head is level with yours, stopping you in your tracks.

"You have one last opportunity to escape," he says quickly, "Come with me right now."

Trying to be as inconspicuous as possible, you quickly slide your foot over the small gem and pull it under your table. Then you reach down and slip it into your pocket.

There appears to be a battle taking place upstairs, but some sort of dark magic is surely at work because men are bursting into flames! Above the commotion you can hear an angry voice shouting, "Where is it?! Where did it go?!"

You feel a sense of great danger, and you suspect you should get out of there as soon as possible. However, you're also worried that you might attract attention to yourself if you stand up and leave.

Continuing to eavesdrop on the argument, you hear another voice reply:

"That is my final offer, and we have gone too far to turn back now! Accept it or I shall take both your money and my cargo!"

"Oh, will you?!" the first voice shouts with a laugh. "I'm afraid our guest doesn't know who he is speaking to. Here, let my assistant show you..."

And with that statement, you're shocked to see a brilliant orange flash burst from the second floor. A man's voice shrieks in pain as flames engulf his body, and immediately afterwards you see a tiny sparkling object drop from the balcony and roll right up to your feet.

You look down to see a small purple gem.
