You cross your slender but muscular arms in front of you. "I'm not leaving Holly," you say firmly.
"I understand," says Annabelle, surprisingly calmly. "I'll go find Jack."
Left alone with Holly, you try to clean her wound as best you can. Suddenly, she stirs and groans, opening her eyes. "Marina? Is that you?"
"Yes. I'm here, Holly. What happened?"
"I...I peeked into Joe's room and saw him missing from his bed. I went to talk to Jack, but couldn't find him. Then I passed by Joe's room a few minutes later. He was back in bed and Annabelle was with him. I asked her how he was doing and she said he'd been unconscious in bed the whole time. That's when I knew Annabelle and Joe were working together to sabotage things in the castle. Joe supposedly in a coma, what a perfect alibi. As soon as I could get Annabelle alone, I confronted her. She denied everything at first, then decided to sneak-attack me. She taunted me, saying she'd silence me permanently before I had the chance to tell anyone. But I managed to turn the tables and choke her out. Until she walloped me with that vase."
You shake your head sadly. "I thought she was a close family friend...How could she betray you like that?"
"I don't know. But right now, we have to warn Jack before Annabelle and Joe can do anything else." Holly tries to stand up, but stumbles. You quickly grab and steady her.
"Holly, you're in no condition for a fight. You stay here and recover your strength. I'll take care of Annabelle and Joe," you say.
"Marina, I can't let you go off alone."
