Sticking to the level ground, you make your way slowly around the edge of the hill, hoping to come out somewhere close to the river where the grass was not so long. You make slow but steady progress until finally, after what seems like many hours, you emerge onto a path.
Night is falling, and it is too dark to make out much beyond the sparkle of the river – and the glittering of what looks like a bonfire up ahead.
