You grunt something noncommittal and start up the ladder. It suddenly seems like it's a long way to that top bunk... A wave of dizziness washes over you. You're drunk and your center of balance isn't where it used to be. The ladder slips out of your hands and you topple backwards.

"I gotcha!"

You land on something soft and warm that grunts at the impact. You roll off of Taffy. She's lying still on the floor. She must have knocked her head against the concrete floor while catching you. She doesn't appear to be bleeding, but she's out like a light.

You feel a lot more sober now that you have adrenalin running through you.
